Totally different mindset since Akio has taken over, but I dont disagree with your mindset. More power to compete with is always good by me.
I'm not an engineer though and I dont have a say.
I'd argue the RC-F point again in that it's not exciting either, but that's what they do.
and therein lies the truth...
they dont intend to compete with those sales, especially with a niche product whose segment has been empty at Toyota since 1998 in the U.S. (2002 in JP)
the philosophy behind the car is almost exactly the same as the 86. Make the car handle well, keep it as light...
^ BOOM, literally just took my argument before I had a chance to hit reply:
The engineers are aware of what the Mustang and other cars offer, and while thats taken into consideration, this car is much like the Toyota 86 (same chief after all). He does what he wants and makes the car as good as...
I never said sub 400hp is a sure thing; I said I expect 380+/- meaning 400hp is definitely possible.
Some folks in here are out of touch with reality lol
The Supra was never a bargain; it was always expensive as hell lol...
they were 45k in 1993. that's 78k in today's money just for reference.
50-60k is just fine.. I wanted it to be 45k personally, but they said the compromise would have been too great so thats that.
the RC-F starts at $65k and optioned out goes WAY above that ($81k). it's also a Lexus meaning luxury and weighs 1000lbs more.
The Supra will likely start at the bottom end of that 50-60k, so it's really not a big deal IMO.
it's 50-60k, not 65, and source is directly from the engineers.
and Toyota doesn't care about BMW marketing and vice versa; I meant Toyota marketing for Toyota/Lexus cars.
I personally was hoping for 400hp+, especially given that as long as it has slightly less power than the 2URGSE then marketing wont complain.
I think we may end up with 380hp +/-
lol @people psyching themselves out..
Lexus will now allow Toyota to have their flagship 3.5L, especially just being released and only available in the LS. If you knew how Lexus and Toyota get along and how their command structures work, this is completely incompatible thinking.
The J29 has a...
I can't release that info because it would be a instant give away as to who I am. Good question though! Should be interesting to see everyone's reaction when it's released.
I told them how much power my car makes, and they were like how do you even drive that around? I was like it's nowhere near as crazy as you think haha.
That said, they were more or less making fun of mkiv owners by saying they all want 800+hp. It was pretty hilarious...
the car was testing at the mid-300 level on the Ring and weighed just north of 3000lbs in testmule guise. my understanding is that they were not sure how much power is needed to make the car marketable, but that is was already impressive in performance as far as what it was doing on the track...
I'd be REALLY surprised (pleasantly so) if it came with a manual.. everything is going auto or at least DCT/SMT at this point.
I just look to Lexus for clues, and the evidence is right there clear as day. Toyota has always been about making safe and profitable decisions after all. Those tenets...
The LC500 is already Yamaha tuned, albeit in sort of a roundabout way. It has the 2UR-GSE (w/ Yamaha engineered head) that came in the IS-F/RC-F :)
I've read the LC-F is to be a twin turbo 4L V8, and I know the chief engineer on that project as well, but only as an aquaintance. WISH I could get...
