Cost savings are rarily passed on to the consumer... plus, it outperforms everything in Toyota and Lexus' lineup at the moment and as such is the flagship performance car just as the JZA80 was.
Owners will pay a premium. In other words, 50-60k :D
well, from what I understand, all of that is true... Ultimately a traditional auto with a TQ converter is going to feel disconnected. To what degree the ZF8 displays this characterisitic is unknown to me (havent tried one).
I think the joint ventures come down purely to Toyota wanting to save as much money as possible. The board of directors, investors, and as a result the accounting department will only approve high risk, low return vehicles when they can be assured that the buy in is low and as such any losses...
yeah, it will cost less than the Z4 for sure, but I dont think it's going to be more than say $10k.
so if the top spec Z4 is 65k, then I'd venture the Supra/SPX is ~$55k which falls right into that $50-60k USD gap the chief engineer gave.
the target price of the car was $50-60k when it was testing at 330hp a few months ago.
It likely has 385hp now because that was deemed what was needed to be competitive on paper (this car is light when compared to many others).
that said, who wouldn't want this thing to be less money (I'm not...
Yes, it is supposed to have paddles, but from the spyshots it looks like they are going to be like the Z4 (small)
Being that it hasn't dropped any of its camo, let alone even more is concerning IMO. We might just get a concept car they mothballed a while back with the production ready version...
some new information close to the source:
1) the car will be available with a single 8 speed automatic transmission sourced from BMW (in all likelihood the ZF8)
2) it is being referred to as 'SPX' in both official documents and conversations now
folks generally only hear what they want to...
hey, I'm not against anything haha; I just figured if you want to see what I was shown I'd advise.
kinda like when I said sub 400hp range and everyone flipped their shit. (btw, wonder what they think now that we have unconfirmed reports straight from BMW)
folks generally only hear what they want to hear.
most of the comments I make are just parroting what the chief engineer and his assistant were telling me lol. oh well...
interestingly enough, there was talk of bringing back the IS-F, but I cant diverge any more than that.
I dont really agree with the ideology of bringing it back, but with the current pricing structure I can see the argument. GS pricing is designed to place it more equidistant between IS and LS...
I hope so, but given it was a render vs an actual photo I have some doubts based on things Toyota has done in recent years. Maybe they got this one right though...
