Production was set to begin in September previously, but that was tentative according to my sources.
Perhaps it is November now, which more than likely means the MY will be 2020.
Not all that surprising IMO. Looking at history NAIAS was always the best bet.
Magazines also said LC-F debut at Tokyo Auto Show and nothing... I think that car is gonna be revealed in Geneva personally btw :D
The RX7 isn't a priority for Mazda either and yet the RX Vision concept made its way to the pedestal.
That's not even a model currently being made either...
More excited for that anyways at this point... I'm really not excited for the Supra as a potential owner (I prefer pure engineering pedigree). I do enjoy talking about it and I'm sure it will be a great car however.
I should have probably used a caveat that I have an R154 in my car and it holds quite a bit more power than the 86 trans hence my comment. That said, even R154s dont do too well above ~550wtq, which is why the V160, T56 Mag, TR6060, etc are held in such high regard. The 86 trans starts having...
From what I'm seeing, it looks a lot like it's not going to be at the Tokyo Auto Show. I asked two of the editors for car mags that I know, and they said there is zero proof they have seen that it will be present.
I'm hedging my bet on NAIAS, although I hope I'm wrong because I'd feel bad for...
yeah, that trans apparently doesn't shift well or hold a lot of power (boosted applications) just from what I've read on the various Lexus forums over the years.
Interesting then that the trans in the 86 was based on it, but they changed a ton of stuff to make it feel completely different...
The main assistant engineer of the new Supra was the one that outfitted that car with a manual.
He told me that it uses an IS250 6spd and the mkiv rear end IIRC
Yeah, he lived a good long life too. I'm sure he had some time left in him given the fact that he was still actively test driving, but he was set to retire after the LF-A Nurburgring Edition was complete (he had already pushed past normal retirement age (~60) under Akio's direction; a normal...
lol, the law of absolutes here...
When one says 'the buyers of lexus and toyota are different segments,' it doesnt mean everyone fits into that category. It just means most do and that you dont matter :D
(kidding... as I cross shop them as well)
I agree with most of what's being said, in that an RC-F buyer is fairly different than a Supra buyer in that the Supra is going to be a sports car for all intents and purposes. It is also a Toyota and brand identity is a HUGE thing in the states, hence the reason Lexus was created to begin with...
^ very well could be, or perhaps it's those issues combined with the declining need to provide that option to the public. Either way, I think manual Toyotas are only going to be available in cars like the 86. We have simply reached the point where it's seen as a novelty.
They mentioned the motor in the Supra possibly being slightly different than the BMW version, but I wasnt able to get any further details. The reason I mention that is because Toyota more or less made the FA20 their own (4U-GSE) by adding DI and some tuning of the intake iirc.
Either way, I...
Just read an article posted in another thread about this partnership originally being announced at the North American International Auto Show (the FT1 also debuted here a year later). Apparently BMW plans to debut the Z4 at this show in Jan 2018.
To me, it would make sense for Toyota to also...
I missed that bit about the North American International Auto Show previously. Given that is where the partnership began/was announced, it is only fitting that would be where the cars would debut.
This would also explain the camo not coming off yet.
EDIT: the FT1 was also first shown at this...
