This was happening every couple years for 20 years when I lived in Northern California at both Laguna Seca and Sonoma.
Happens here at Lime Rock as well.

There is no fill level sensor. Only a temp sensor. The temp sensor will throw an error from a certain temp, which an underfilled diff might do.
The photos you shared from the tech are of the axles, not the drive shaft.

Going to assume they just mean the M Sport rear diff, which is odd, since those come on all the M-lite cars... M240i/M340i/M440i/Z4 M40i/X3,5,6,7 M40i/Supra 3.0
You can use the Bootmod3 logger on your phone without having Bootmod3 flashed to the car.
CANChecked also has a standalone screen that attaches to the OEM middle screen that show oil pressure I believe.
