Booted up Forza Horizon 5 and drove around a virtual Supra while the weather here is awful. I also made some A91 goodies in game -- see this thread for instructions.
For those of you who want A91 stripes and a lip spoiler look (no lip spoiler in the game, so I mocked up some vinyls to look like it) on your Supras in Forza Horizon 5, here's some vinyls made for it. They're black, so they won't appear on black Supras -- I'll use this thread for updates to the...
If it makes you feel better, here's Toyota's own page: https://global.toyota/en/newsroom/toyota/36254760.html
and Car and Driver's: https://www.caranddriver.com/toyota/bz4x
Looks like Toyota's realizing EVs are the most efficient path forward: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/nov/02/toyota-announces-the-bz4x-the-carmakers-first-mass-produced-electric-vehicle
I pulled up behind one of these the other day. The build quality is atrocious; basically every panel in the back didn't line up, and I personally couldn't live with that.
Here's the RC-F for example. It's heavy and outclassed by the BMWs and Mercs it competes with. provides some reasoning. You could also look at sales figures -- I'm fairly certain M3/4s outsell Lexus performance cars at least 2:1, if not more. Better competitors mean less sales, which is a usual...
I used these sites for sales numbers: MkIV vs MkV.
I do hope Toyota's already invested resources into the next gen, so as to have as large a sales window as possible.
Agreed with you, hopefully there's some progress into solid state or hydrogen fuel cells. I'm not looking forward to hurling...
MkV sales have already passed the MkIV sales, so we're more likely to see a faster followup from a pure sales perspective.
Lots of other factors though that can sway the course: will EVs become the "in" thing and force a rethink on strategy, will a rise in gas prices kill demand for sports...
Toyota did outsource the 2000GT production to Yamaha though; they provided the Crown's engine and Yamaha handled manufacturing; there is precedent for Toyota outsourcing manufacturing but not to the extent of the MkV.
Partnering is very likely to continue, whether enthusiasts like it or not...
I don't recall we've heard weight specs yet; that and no reviews from anyone leads me to think they're concerned about how it stacks up against the premium sports car segment.
Basically every Toyota engine used on a performance car has external influence, whether that's Yamaha on the old Toyota sports cars (I wanna say since the 2000GT all the way to the 1st gen IS300/Altezza), Lotus tuning the Camry engine, and our B58.
I'm at 12.5k miles, and haven't had any chassis or powertrain issues at all; all it needs is regular maintenance. The only time my car was in the shop was for the trunk getting jammed shut because the emergency latch came loose.
