The FT-1 Concept was a double edged sword for Toyota. It got so much attention back on the Supra name after many years hiatus, but on the other hand it set such high expectations that's hard for any production car to meet.

I don't agree with #8. I'd bet that it comes with a manual transmission. Manual take rate on the FR-S shows that there's plenty of Toyota sports car enthusiasts who would choose manual and there should be a business case for it.

3700 pounds is really quite heavy. But all that engineering it has probably makes it feel much lighter. Plus it does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and quarter mile in 10.8 sec. That's definitely supercar territory in terms of performance.

That's definitely unconventional by BMW standards. BMW usually replaces their models after 6-7 years at the most. The current Z4 been out since 2009, so it's due to be replaced basically now. Sounds like they'll put off the replacement in order to use the new joint platform.

Yea next big shows are NY in April and Frankfurt in September. Before Frankfurt the other possibilities are Concorso (May) as Supra93 mentioned, but also Pebble Beach Concorso in August. BMW has revealed cars at Pebble Beach before also.

It definitely looks like a cheapman's version of the FT-1, down to the color. FT-1 design is much better of course. Front end reminds me of the 360 Modena

I would hope that the front ends up more distinctive than that. Hardly resembles the FT-1 front styling except for the headlight shape. Targa form looks good though.

Wonder why it hasn't been put on more cars then? Price, weight, complexity? Seems like nothing but a benefit especially for performance cars.

These 2.x liter engine rumors better be false. Sounds more proper for the rumored sub-FRS sports car than the Supra, which should have a properly lineup leading motor. Not something barely bigger than the 2.0L 4 cyl FRS engine

Wowo never seen these before. those are the most beautiful photo I've seen of the gray FT1 concept! :spaz: Everytime I see gorgeous pix of the car it makes me wish it wouldn't be another couple years until you can even buy one.

Guess they were afraid to mess with the success of the current Camaro design. But that's playing it for extremely safe. The underpinnings and performance better improve or they'll basically be selling the same car as the last few years.
