As title says what would be most reliable way to tune this b48 platform? Femto unlock and custom tune is probably more safe than piggyback tunes to avoid all kind of issues like LSPI (low speed pre-ignition) or other issues that may occur with limited control over ecu? what are other supporting mods that would be reasonable to get? e.g would upgrading downpipe help reduce potential turbo issues or lead to faster wear and tear?

If you're stock and wanting to tune, the first thing you should do is an upgraded down pipe. How much power are you looking to push? If you want a considerable power increase there's a list of mods you'd need to do, keep in mind it won't be cheap.

I'm just looking to make this car around 1s faster to 60mph, which should happen with only tune? Femto+ custom tune is about 1500euros as I live In Finland. I can only get catted downpipes due to legislation over here.

Safety depends on who tuned your car :)

Correctly tuned piggybacks do not have LSPI issues. Of course they also retain all the stock limits for knock protection as well. You want 1 second off? My advice is a used JB4 and downpipe , coming in far under 1k (with the ability to resell). Unless you plan to go big power later on (big turbos, port, e30+ fuel, etc), save yourself the money.

Don’t use a JB4 stock map. Gave me LSPI and destroyed cylinder 1

I gues my only question left is does upgrading downpipe help or reduce reliability of the turbo/motor if tuned correctly?

Upgrading the downpipe reduces the backpressure on your turbo, which helps it breathe better.
it does not reduce reliability in any way
