I recently took my car in for its 2-year maintenance, which included an oil change. My usual mechanic — whom I’ve trusted for about 8 years — filled it with “Masteroil Motoröl C-Tec Power LL IV 0W-20.”

My car is tuned to around 500 hp at the crank, so I want to make sure this oil is actually suitable for it.

I did some research and found the following specs:

  • Kinematic viscosity: 40.2 mm²/s @ 40°C
  • Flash point: 235°C (ASTM D92)
  • Density: 843 kg/m³ @ 15°C

It seems to be a German brand, often used for Porsche, VW, and similar cars.

I don’t want to cause any trouble with my workshop since I’ve been going there for years, but if this oil isn’t ideal for my setup, I might have to speak up.
Unfortunately, I can’t do oil changes myself.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edit: OIL is not approved by BMW or Toyota

Just for better understanding.
For the car maker approval the oil has obviously undergo the corresponding tests and the oil maker has to pay a yearly fee.
So sometimes they just don't wanna spend the money for some extra approvals.
So don't freak out about that.

It has a Porsche C20 approval which means it's also fine for cars with OPF.
And i'm sure Porsche has some strict standard for their engine oils.

EDIT:
If the approval is important for you because of warranty reasons, consider asking if you can bring your own oil for the next oil change (if the workshop doesn't have something in stock).

Thanks for the explaination, how about specifications of the oil though ?

The Masteroil is LL 4 and in the supra manual they highly recommend LL 17 FE+.

For tuned cars with that power you dont want to be using 0w-20 anyways. go up.

I’m German as well and have never heard of that brand or seen it in stores but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

0W20 is perfectly fine for stock performance and to maintain the factory warranty. However, once you start increasing power - especially from Stage 2 onward - I’d recommend switching to a 5W40 oil.

Specifically, I’d suggest either RAVENOL RUP 5W-40 or Motul 300V 5W-40 Competition.
Personally, I use the RAVENOL RUP, as it meets all the required technical specifications and approvals I'm looking for (BMW Longlife-04, API SP, ACEA C3). Since I have to keep the OPF and cat installed for TÜV compliance, the RUP is a great choice — it fulfills the low-SAPS requirements (ACEA C3). The Motul is slightly above the limit in that regard, but that’s more of a peace-of-mind thing or a matter of personal preference. (0,73 % RUP; 0,8 % Limit; 0,91 % 300V)

Both are excellent oils. The Motul 300V 5W-40 Competition is positioned more as a racing oil, so if your main focus is track use, go with the Motul. Otherwise, you really can’t go wrong with either — both are highly recommended for the B58 engine across various German forums and tuning workshops.

Not a Corvette.
Motul 300V 5W-40 Competition would be crazy overkill for a street car. Motul 8100 X-Cess or Motul X-Clean FE.

X-Clean is LL-04

I use 8100 X-Cess in my Supra track car and X-Clean in my street 330i.

Both are listed in BMW official recommended motor oil docs.

Oh boy, you just put up the Boomer Blob Bat Signal with that last sentence. May God have mercy on this thread.
