cross posted on FB.

I had a local shop build my trans with a PDS HPK stage 2 kit earlier this year. Car ran great, but I noticed that the transmission was leaking fluid when I pulled the transmission cover off while servicing other parts of the driveline. Took my car back to the shop to fix the leak. They noted that the leak was coming from the bell housing, so they had to pull the trans. Upon reassembly, they said that the car would only shift into reverse and not drive.

They’re suggesting that the transmission was ran on low fluid, which I’m doubtful. I replaced the trans cooler a couple months ago and prefilled the trans cooler (approx 3/4 qt) and injected the remainder into the trans cooler lines. I had 0 issues with the transmission, no odd shifts or noises, no bad adaptations.

I brought the car in under its own power (50 miles to the shop), then they had to drive the car into the service bay.

Car has approx. 10 track days since the build. Fluid was flushed 1k after break in. DI only with pure850. Temps never crossed 230F.

any thoughts if the damage associated is related to fluid level?

Yes with fluid levels low it can cause that issue. You don’t know how long it’s been leaking and how low the fluid level got too

If it leaked enough fluid over time to damage the trans then there would be fluid over everything under the car aft of the trans not just something you only noticed when you removed covers. A small leak covers a lot of real estate.

How did you not smell that? I had a little bit of spillage when changing my fluid out last time and I smelled it every time I drove the car for two weeks.

I have no idea. The first pan they used from the kit leaked and I smelt that within the first week. This time didn’t notice it at all… and top down or up.

That is odd, so maybe the second time they didn't fill it properly and it wasn't actually leaking?
