I have been running BM3 stage 1 E30 since the day after I got the car. I will be going stage 2 next week, bought the car on July 1st.

I have the Titan Protune which is just a rebadge Race Chip GTS. It works well enough to give the car an extra bit of pep.
I'm also in the NOVA area and am having the biggest trouble deciding between catted vs catless. I've only lived here for 2 years so I'm not real up to speed on how emissions works around here. Would catless be okay or should I just get catted to avoid issues in different countys?

I just got a catted downpipe for two reasons.
  1. Emissions and not having to worry about swapping back and forth every two years (can be coded out via a tune but not via a piggyback).
  2. I like my car not smelling like a gas station. I did it once on a previous car and ended up going to a 200 cel cat within a few months.
Depending on which county you're in, you may have to deal with emissions.
  • Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford
  • Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas or Manassas Park

Ah okay well that makes my decision a lot easier. I will be going catted lol. Now just need to decide which one.

How are you liking your PowerNeedy catted dp? Did it increase the sound quite a bit?

I currently have BM3 Stage 1 OTS map and will be going to the Stage 2 once I get the downpipe. Was the difference between dp/stage 2 noticeable?

I'm sold on EcuTek, but haven't been able to decide on a tuner. I have a local master tuner with a dyno, but I'd be their first Supra.

I've also had some sketch conversations with some online tuners. How do we know who the best remote tuners are? Does experience with the platform matter more than having a dyno (and no experience in the platform)?

Currently seems like my best option is to wait a year to see who comes out on top in terms of a balance of reliability, drivability and performance -- in that order.

Thoughts?
definitely go with someone with experience on the platform and BMW experience in general. You'll save yourself a ton of headaches and issues by doing that. That way you wont get the run around when and if issues arise. Having a dyno doesn't matter much as the same data is being used on the street and dyno to build a calibration adjustment for your car. Feel free to reach with any questions and etc, I'm a Ecutek master tuner as well and have also been doing dev for BMWs for years

In reference to how long i waited to tune our car. probably 100 miles, lol. Had it since august 2019 iirc, and did the first flash like a week or 2 after getting it. Then was gone for 3 months, lol.

many catted DP's will occasionally through a CEL. depending on how many Cells the cat is, is kinda what determines if it will throw an efficiency code or not. But yea certain areas do actually physically check for cats on cars. Luckily for me in New York, its never actually checked or smogged.
