Yea definitely a piece of it broke off so who knows how much damage it did.

Looks like it's shed a section of the open exhaust valve perimeter. If you look above that section you can see a semi-circular part of the valve seat and opposite that on the rhs of the image the cross section of the head gasket.
This is the hard part of boro images, image orientation, magnification and so much reflected light it's hard to work out whats what. Sometimes you need to back off the light intensity to reduce the reflections and shadows and get the orientation clear in your head. One reason we had a dedicated Boro crew at work years ago. They were attuned to it. It's almost certainly not as bad as it looks here. No guarantees though.
