I am moding my 2020 GR with JB4 with ewg controller, E85 kit with flash for JB4. Friend who is an accomplished DIY mechanic/is an instructor at a local track (owns 2016 Z06/C7) recommends putting a new exhaust on it. Many on this site and others have suggested a new downpipe. In looking at 2021, the only real changes I see to the engine are the dual branch exhaust manifold and mild drop in compression (reportedly to allow more boost). One of the car mags suggested that most of the performance enhancements were due to the manifold change. Another post (? YouTube) said that, in talking to one of the supra engineers, there were “software” tweaks as well. JB4 should take care of the “tweaks” and I like that I can go back to stock and get 34mpg on the highway at 80 mph. :). I prefer mods that won’t necessarily ruin my warranty. Also want to campaign in Time Trials which limit mods I can make and stay in initial supra class (can’t run E85 for instance but that’s a turn on/off option). So finally: the question. If I only want to spend the time and money on one mod on the exhaust side right now, where should I put my money? Is the new manifold a possible swap, is it worth it?

stock for stock the main reason for the power increase in the 2021 over the 2020 is a simple tune adjustment to allow more boost carried over 5000-5500rpm. That's where the power increase on paper comes from.

The 6 port exhaust manifold vs the 2 port manifold is only a discussion beyond 800whp or so. blow that the 2 port has no issues making the same power as the 6port. There is really nothing special about the 6 port. if you're an owner that is going for 1000+whp. then the 6port may suit your build better.

The lower compression of the 6port will have less off-boost power than the 2 port which equates to around town driving experience.

the 6 port is basically a direct swap onto the block, but its not worth it until what i said above.

downpipe. the stock catbacks on these cars flow well for 700whp. below that its just for changing the sound of the car.
