Hello all,

Currently live in Chicago land area w/ a 2020 Supra LE.

Just wondering, currently I have a stock engine (as in no upgraded injectors etc.) just a bolt ons with a bm3 stage 2 tune, w/ stage 1 trans from ATS. I'm doing some research in regards to e85 and debating on purchasing equipment for this (as of right now just bm3 flex fuel kit - link below).

Some questions:
1) Are there any concerns with e85 on stock engine components?
2) Is fuel system upgrade required? Same with injector ports?
3) What are possible concerns with running e85 long term with tune and flexfuel kit?
4) Any additional advice?

Any advice would help, if y'all are running E85 whats your current builds and how is the car holding up?

Thanks y'all!

I'm in Northern Lake County - welcome!

With a BM3 Flex Fuel kit and your car as it sits right now, you could run E85 gas. However, the flex tune will lower your boost/timing so you wont be making good power, but the engine will run with no issues.

With the OEM turbo and the BM3 Flex Fuel kit, the sweet spot for making power would be to blend your gas so that it is at E50 level.

If you wanted to run E85 level gas, you would need the following: Port Injection Plate, Auxiliary fuel pump and a controller to control it all - BM3 is coming out with a "Rev2" board that is supposed to work with the DME to do this, however it has not been released yet.

It might benefit you to go with a Pure turbo if you are looking for more power, rather than trying to go for more Ethanol content.

Some folks do upgrade to S58 injectors and high pressure fuel pumps, just so the fuel system has more bandwidth.

All cars today are able to withstand Ethanol in the gas, as even "93" gas has Ethanol in it now.

You mention you have the Stage 2 OTS tune and a transmission upgrade - at your level now you should have upgraded axles as well.

Also - an off topic note - if you are running a catless downpipe and using BM3 to get rid of the Check engine light you will not pass IL emissions. It puts the "Catalytic Converter" System monitor in the state of "NOT SUPPORTED" (instead of "NOT READY") and you will fail immediately.

Even trying to put the BM3 into "OEM" mode for the Catalytic Converter and then trying to suppress the codes does not work anymore (ask me how i know..)

Hopefully this helps!

I'm in a similar boat. I want to run e85, but I am coming from flex fuel. I am tired of mixing.

So talking to my shop, they suggested I get an upgraded manifold, with all the supporting mods (Reflex, LPFP) and a retune.

They also highly suggest a turbo upgrade because the OEM turbo would be pushed to its limits.

Since the thought of upgrading the turbo has entered my mind, it's about finding the right turbo now.

It's an expensive rabbit hole to go down...

Thanks! This helped a lot. I’ll just run with what I have now and save some money for an upgraded turbo! ?

Why do you mix the gas prior to using it. I keep 3 VP cans of e85 at home and just pour in the level of power I want to run. The flex fuel kit does the rest, its really effortless.

If you’re near Lockport they have e50 at the pump. It usually comes in at 42-45% ethanol.

I definitely do not want to leave e85 at home. But California gas sucks, so I want to just be on full e. I don't think it's bad to on full e right?
