Ferrari pulled off F1’s equivalent to NASCAR’s “checkers or wreckers” with that strategy.

Lando better pray he wins the title this year, because Piastri is fast becoming the better driver. What a move from the Aussie. McLaren are idiots on the pit wall. Max got extremely lucky this weekend only lost him 8 points. Terrible qualy, awful pitstop, he could've lost a lot more. If McLaren want to win the driver's title, they need to be smarter.

Great drive by Charles, he’s my son’s favorite driver so we’re psyched for that win.

Lando really doesn’t seem to have the mental strength to deliver when he needs to and it’s getting apparent that Oscar does have it. Like Danny said Oscar will overtake Lando next year as McLaren’s number one unless Lando’s dad kicks in the $ again.

Ferrari finally got a strategy call right, not taking away from Charles as he certainly has driven amazingly the past two races. Happy for him winning the two biggest races for him personally and the team.

We can agree that McLaren has the best driver lineup. I think Zack Brown stated he has two number one drivers, and I don't think he's wrong. The relationship between the drivers has been decent, but on track they don't mind racing each other in a safe and respectful manner and doing what the team says is in their best interests.

Some might say that Oscar should have given Lando P2 in order to get more points for the drivers championship, using that Oscar win as a reason why they should have swapped. But I disagree, unlike that race where Lando gave Oscar the lead, this race one driver was the faster driver the entire race. Oscar earned that P2. Lando could not get close enough to challenge the entire race. Where as that other race Oscar was the faster car in the first half of that race.

Going to be tight finish for the drivers championship I feel. Much much more entertaining end of the season than last two years.

I like Lando, but he tries to be the people drivers always saying things to try and offend the least amount of people, I think. His "I don't want team orders I want to race" and stuff. It's possible that if there were team orders, Piastri would've had a different strategy, and they finished 1-2 and with the win he gave away the points to Max would be a very different picture. Obviously would've could've should've... But if he wants to win the drivers' championship, he has to be more cutthroat, and the team needs to 1000% back him up as that's the closest person to challenge Max.

I found this amusing

Two things, you don't have to be an ass to win, and his situation at McLaren is a complex one.

One of the main reasons why he's so liked is that he isn't some asshole on the road, or goes off on anyone and everyone when things aren't going his way. It's why Max is such a polarizing driver, no denying his ability, but how he goes about his business and how he treats people rubs the majority of people the wrong way.

It's complex with McLaren because they in essence have two number one level drivers. We heard during that last race the team us "Papaya rules" which we can assume is you are allowed to race with your teammate but in a respectful manner. I'm guessing that race they made sure to tell Oscar that the first corner they must not trip over each other and ideally keep everyone behind, but after that point they were free to race, which Oscar did, but I'm guessing that Lando didn't expect it to happen pretty much in the next turn (I know technically it was turn 4 but 3 is flat out).

It's hard for the team to balance the driver dynamics, not truly favoring one over the other, and keeping them in a good place where they don't really fight off the track. I'm sure there are disagreements and some somewhat heated talks, but overall it's from a place of professionalism.

Could you imagine if that same thing happened but with Max being passed by Perez? Would not have played out nearly as neatly or pleasantly.

Charles drove amazingly, but his win was almost entirely because he was able to do a one stop where the McLaren team chose to go with the two stop. Otherwise I think both McLarens could have caught him or held him off. Either way, it was an amazing win for Ferrari and Charles.

I agree with everything you said. I also think that's what's going to cost Lando the championship. I get wanting to win on your own accord. but when you have 2 #1 drivers, and one is in the position for the championship, you should sit them down and tell them we are prioritizing the guy that can win it. But you're right they are in a unique situation.

They are handling it much better than Merc did with Lewis and Nico.

Agreed, but I'm not sure it's time to do that yet. Lando is still on pace to beat Max, so when it gets closer to the end of the season I'd say there will be a greater chance of team orders to possibly come into effect.

The Lewis and Nico battle was fun for TV but likely not so much for the team or drivers for that matter. I'm glad these two can race respectfully and not have any big public riffs or on track incidents.

Proof of what a mental game this is as well. These drivers are under an insane amount of pressure. With cameras being everywhere for fan & viewer acce$$, it’s going to show. I don’t have cameras in my face 24/7, nor do I have to be in that kind of physical shape. So I could only imagine what’s it’s like for them… thanks (for what you/they do), but no thanks!!

You guys are spot on. Oscar seems to have the mental game down atm. But can he keep it up when the real pressure is on to win it all and you are the media’s number one? Guess we’ll find out.

Alonzo btw, what a mental callus he must have built up over the years ?

Lmao. So you're new to this. You DO have to be an ass to win, or be in a car faster than anyone else and have a shit teammate.
ALL the greatest drivers were assholes.
Senna, punched another driver, not to mention crashing out Prost to win.
Prost, same.
Mansell, unbelievable asshole.
Schumacher, we all know the stories.
Vettel, multi-21 and so on.
Hamilton, crashed out so many people on purpose, I lost count.

Alonso was actually NOT one, I can't remember him and Schumacher ever coming together.

People like giving Max a hard time, but it all comes from DTS "knowledge". Max is mild compared to what we've seen in the past. James Hunt is another. Everyone praises him, yet he only won because of Lauda's accident. All a bunch of (often British) hypocrits.

This season is shaping up to be a great one, but EVERYONE knows, that if Max's car was equal to the McLaren, Lando would be nowhere. And Piastri is the next great on the grid, and Lando knows it. And so does McLaren.

I thought Max was so good he could beat everyone in a shitbox?

He's in a shitbox and leading the championship so ?‍♂

But in all seriousness, a good driver can overcome a deficit of a couple tenths. A great one up to half a second. The McLaren is faster than that still. Max is great, but he can't perform miracles. Perez shows the car as it is. Max being that much faster is his driving. When the Redbull was closer to the McLaren, Max would still come out on top. Now the gap is too big between the cars.

So you admit it's more about the car than the driver?

At least they didn’t have DTS back then. If they did, it’d likely be banned content today ?
