Those marshals at the Nouvelle…

I've worked corners and broken down at corners (while racing) and even photographed at corners (after I retired from racing) with race cars speeding by like those guys at Monaco. It's really not that big a deal. But the fact that they didn't even flinch is kind of impressive.

85% of the race at Monaco is Saturday afternoon... the last 15% is Sunday. I hope the mandatory 2 stop rule makes it more interesting, but I'm really not sure it will make a big difference. Still no passing on track, but more passing in pit lane... yawn!

Monaco is about what F1 represents. The Glitz and Glamour, the Elite, the Kings of Motorsport. The Money, the Sponsors, and they occasionally do some driving.
Think it was Sauber, that had a big ass diamond on the nose cone in Monaco. Of course it crashed, and the diamond is still lost. It's in the streets of Monaco somewhere.
It's all about qualifying. If Max can pull off a pole, and keep the lead at the start, he should win it.
Yep. If you want action packed racing with guys laying it on the line MotoGP or WSB is the thing to watch, although MotoGP is drifting towards F1 these days unfortunately.

Rallycross has been my go-to for interesting racing. The joker lap opens up some interesting strategies.

2 Supras at the track on Monaco. I’m trying to figure out what are those two cars doing there.

they are not hot lap cars. - although this year I saw mustang and even a charger, hot lap cars have no lights
the cars are official cars - look at the lights on top. I can’t quite read the windshield banners.

I don’t think they are MIV (Medical Intervention Vehicles) because usually those are 4 door vehicles to be able to move drivers around.

only role left is official transportation. Staff race control, course open or closing.

if anyone know, share.

I’m currently in Monaco/Nice and I attended FP1/FP2. Those are the safety cars for the other series F2/3.

It was more fun to watch the Porsche Cup than F1.

Yea F1 has turned into some form of cult or soap opera from what I can observe. It seems more about off track drama, politics and hype. What happens when something evolves into predominantly a career for hangers on and media talking heads. The original concept of actual automobiles competing on a closed course gets kinda lost. I must say I'm not interested at all in F1 if you hadn't already guessed. I worked out I need something that I identify with more as an automobile and an F1 car doesn't fit that criterion for me. Sure it's technically a car but to me it's a tenuous link. Bit like a top fueller is a "car". To me those versions of a "car" have diverted down such a narrow evolutionary path they no longer seem relevant or "connect" with me as an automobile.

I hear ya brotha… My wife got sucked into Drive to Survive on Netflix and that was all she wrote. Thank goodness for me. Cuz now we get to watch practice, qualifying and races together. That’s where the real action is at. They definitely are on the fine line of WWF, in your face, marketing. We’re probably about the same age and it ain’t my thang. But once you start watching a few, unpeel the onion of all that whimsical marketing, there’s real racing in there that’s top notch! These kids got game and the engineering is like no other. It’s definitely the pinnacle of motor racing (drivers, cars, tech, speed, etc.).

So ignore that shat and give it a try. The real race. It was and is far better than I expected. Now I’m hooked ?

F1 can be the best racing or the worst, it depends on what you want to see. The race on Sunday at Monaco can be a real snoozer. But qualifying today was fabulous!

Especially the top 5... OK, the top 6 as Hadjar, a rookie, in a Racing Bull, only 0.25 behind Verstappen in the Red Bull!!! That kid could be the next powerhouse driver with a year or two of experience and moved into a top line car.

F1 is too refined, technical and the cars are too delicate for my enjoyment.

NASCAR is too USA centric and oval racing is too boring for me to enjoy as well.

Circuit cup cars is where the fun is at for me. The most fun I have is Porsche Cup cars, GR86 Cup cars or endurance. I have had the chance to watch GT and LMPs battle up close from pit lane and that is way way more fun than these otherworldly $350M rockets that cant touch each other because they break into 10000 pieces.

Also, last weekend I watched very close a 2000s V10 F1 and definitely the sound of that engine makes it for a much more immersive experience than the current F1 cars now.

Yeah, there’s something for everyone. That’s for sure. But I‘m with Phil. For years my perception was this was way too refined for me as well. Now look at me ?
