First time changing the tire on the Supra (big nail too close to the sidewall). I know, FML.

What should I be on the lookout for at the tire shop when I take the wheel and tire for them to mount and balance?
I've heard horror stories about scratches to the wheel because of bad people & equipment.

Anything I can ask or lookout for? TIA.

UPDATE for anyone finding this thread in the future:

Several folks suggested ensuring that the shop had a "touchless mounting" machine.
In the thread, there is a link to Hunter's directory of shops that use their touchless machine. Useful link.

Thanks, all!

I just brought mine to Discount Tire to swap all four tires for upgraded tires on OEM wheels. They did it quick and wheels are fine. I'm sure yours will be fine as well

Thank you, DermDoc.
I was hoping to use Discount Tires as well for the mounting and installation. Thanks again!

People are out of control.
It’s a fucking car. The engine takes whatever oil the manual says. It’s has basic wheels that use standard tires mounted with standard tools.

Jesus
. If you guys drive yourselves neurotic over this simple shit I hate to see how you’d handle a legitimate problem.

OP has a legitimate question. There are some shitty tire shops out there. Don't need them damaging my aftermarket wheels. Some after market options are expensive and not wanting them scratched is fair.

To some of us, this is the most expensive car we have ever owned and probably the nicest car we have ever owned

Get over it. The average new car price is a hair under $50k and the premium 3.0 is $57k.

It’s not like we all bought Ferraris.

What is wrong with trying to keep something as nice as possible?

When I had a bad nail, not close to home, I went to Discount Tire. I just spoke politely with the manager, and told him I'm just paranoid because of my wheels. He was super accommodating, let me pull my car in, showed me the zero touch machines they use. Didn't have any tech drive it at all. He was a car guy, and got my worry. Not all shops have the nice touchless machines. We talked about cars, was a cool guy. He even referred me to some good deals they had and price matched to some cheaper online tire prices. All in all, good experience.

Say those who are blessed with not having the type of personalities, or OCD and such, that constantly try to keep things nice and orderly. It’s a curse and at times an excruciating way to live but can’t be helped. By no means does it make us better than anyone, in fact it probably makes us worse. And you’re right, what we own does own us, but we can’t help it. I am jealous that you can live without these problems. I’m being honest, and I understand your exasperation.

Jesus Christ, now you’ve made me sound like a former Corvette owner we have on here.

I would just ask if they have touchless machines. You’ll get an idea how much they care with their response.
