I previously used an adapter to hard wire a VIOFO dash cam to the small red adapter behind the rearview mirror. The connector splits off factory and allows me to connect two USB devices. The Dashcam has been working fine.

Several weeks later,

I then tried plugging in an Escort Max3 radar to the second USB connector and get low voltage warning on the Escort and it powers off. I noticed the USB adapter shows input 12V output 5V.
From what I've read the escort requires 12V and USB is always 5V. I'm not sure why it has a USB port then-- maybe just to connect to a computer and configure?

I tried using my meter test for 12V from some of the wires on the new adapter. Suddenly no power at all to that connector. I've spent hours checking fuses even the real hard to get to F1-F7 fuses behind the footwell carpet. So far I only checked the F1 fuse there, which is listed for DRIVING ASSIST components.

OSD is displaying "Auto lighting and wiping system malfunct."

The wipers do work, although the AUTO light on the stalk does not light up green anymore in the auto position.

- Door handle lights work
- Overhead lights and buttons work.
- Headlights work
- DRLs work.
- Garage door buttons on mirror work (orange LED shows up in mirror when pushed)
- Flashing red security light on rear view mirror works.

I don't think the sensor is damaged because there's no power going to that connector anymore.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

did u check f59?
Yes, I checked all the mini fuses in that bank and the bank next to it. I was using a little fuse checker thing. I saw F59 on the diagram related to Driver Assist. I actually checked all of the fuses identified below.

It's not clear to me which fuse is for the Rain Sensor

I'm confident I checked all the fuses below.

The red connector is a factory connector that connects to the Rain Sensor. I see that the Rear View Mirror is attached to it also, but the rear view mirror appears to get power. There is another factory connector there, maybe that's where the mirror gets power.. (which works) Since the error refers to Wipers, Im guessing its the red plug above it that doesnt have power.

I removed the 3rd party adapter, same thing.. when I start the car I get the error:
"Auto lighting and wiping system malfunct."

I will check again, Im confident I checked all of the ones below. Maybe that red connector is not part of DRIVING ASSIST group of fuses?

Thank you so much for replying and following up! I really appreciate it.

I bet this issue is fuse somewhere.. I'm still open to suggestions from anyone else.

I next plan to re-check all the fuses.

check the rest of the F1-7 fuses. I had one of those fuses blow when wiring a dashcam into the mirror unit.
Yes, finally found it. It was the F3 fuse!

Thanks for the help. Here's the error message again in case someone else runs into this:

"Auto lighting and wiping system malfunct."

@romanLegion9574 @Viper Yes, I didnt realize until you mentioned it, but my A/C didnt have power either.

Ran into the same thing myself. Such a pain to access those fuses in the passenger footwell.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY lesson learned lol

My issue happened when I was putting the casing back on after testing everything. I snagged a wire with the clip and shorted the fuse.

Hey guys, I just got my supra a few days ago and I tried hooking up my escort redline 360cc to the same area. I used these from amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DR2Q9CBH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I hooked it up to the red connector as seen below, black to - and red to +
So black to far left on the red connector and red to the far right on the red connector.

I don't know what the middle wire is for tbh.

I noticed that the radar doesnt turn off when I turn the car off and leave my car... (so I have been plugging it and unplugging it when I get in and out of my car). There was one time I forgot to unplug after a work day and I relized the screen was black but the redline was really hot (dont have tints yet) but when I clicked on a button the device woke up (didnt initialize which meant it was on sleep mode?? - would that be a problem for the battery or the radar?)

Then this morning got these error messages when I came to a stop at a red light...
1751382981463-95.webp

1751382997932-87.webp

After a bit the car warnings went away and the system check was ok.

Please let me know how to properly hook up the radar, and are the warnings tied together?
