High pitch noise, can't diagnose. Help :(

I've had this high pitch noise occur, on and off again, throughout the year.

Car has been assessed by Toyota but they weren't able to figure it out. I asked them to focus on brakes/handbrake but apparently that looked fine.

Key points

• only occurs - sometimes - after extended periods of "spirited" driving
• seems to come from rear, but it's hard to tell
• using the last occurrence as an example;
  • I noticed it cruising home at 100kmh (after several hours of spirited driving), and it would consistently occur when decelerating or accelerating.
  • It was very loud when there was a car or road barrier next to me to bounce the sound back.
  • Noise continued on and off until I slowed down to about 40kmh when it didn't seem to occur.
  • When accelerating from a slow speed, it returned back at about 60kmh.
  • From when I noticed it to when I returned home it was about a 20 minute drive and it occurred throughout.
• some other examples havent been as bad, eg it would briefly and quietly appear then disappear again
• i've had rocks stuck in my brakes before, this doesnt sound like that

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I am at my wits end with this

Brake pad noise maybe. Does it stop if you tap the brakes? Might help if you gave us some car details like manual/auto, year mileage, daily driver or weekend warrior, std or aftermarket pads etc. On a higher mileage car it could be the tail shaft centre bearing on the way out.

I thought I replied to this

* 2023 auto, I've had it for about 2.5 years from new.
* About 50k km on the odo.
* It's my daily but is used for everything including some track time

No mods to the brakes, and still the original kit from new.
I cant find any sort of specific pattern to the noise when driving, eg accelerating, braking, etc. It just continues and does its thing.

Lots of cosmetic mods to the car, but the mechanical stuff mainly include;
* exhaust, intake
* airlift suspension

could be the carrier bearing in the 2pc shaft. they're known to fail.

misunderstood you. usually tailshaft is used for the transmission output shaft, not the driveshaft. definitely a good place to start
