How Long Before You Replace the Drive Belt?

Hey ya'll lately I've been hearing a whining noise from the engine every now and then when I'm getting on the throttle. Almost sounds like those old beaten cars you hear drive by on the street. Car is bone stock and sitting around 35k miles. I've had it for over four years now and don't know if moving to the dry southwest (from the northwest) has maybe accelerated the drive belt's age (if that's even the culprit)?

Just curious if anybody's already replaced their drive belt or has heard a similar noise? It comes and goes at random, but you'll hear at least once every time you take the car out for the day.

Drive belts on BMWs last quite a while. My son's got 85k miles on his stock 435i. Not much wear or cracking (almost none).

Generally, you can swap them out around 60k to 75k if you want. It's a 20-30 min job tops and belt is $35-$65.

But most of the issues with the drive belts are usually the pullies. The sealed bearing does dry out or fail.

Thanks! I've been trying to replicate it more lately and on my way home yesterday it almost felt like the belt was slipping since the car felt weak for a moment while pulling away from the lights.
