Hi all,
I wouldn't post a new thread if I could find the answer here but I couldn't. My car is relatively new and I've not driven it much, especially on the highway. I just recently did a 3 hour trip and was trying to make phone calls to people but my volume for calls was not that loud. Here are the circumstances:

- iphone X
- Connected to Bluetooth OR CarPlay (same result when I tried each separately)
- New Amplifier and speakers
- Tried adjusting volume buttons to max while on a call, did not help
- Turned up main volume control while on a call to max, I need louder!
- Other apps sound works just fine

Since the latter is the case, I don't see how it could be the amplifier. I used google maps, Spotify, Apple Music and all sound fine. I can blast music way louder than I'd ever want to.

But when I'm on a phone call, I just can't turn up the volume more than max (obviously) but I feel max is just not loud enough. It seems like there is a separate volume control for phone vs. other sources.

I am reasonably tech savvy and have tried everything I can think of - settings in the phone, etc. Nothing that I could figure out. Searched online - didn't see anything.

The problem really is that the ambient noise from highway is higher - particularly on certain types of payment - that makes it very hard to hear (especially people who just don't have a deep voice to begin with). It got to be so bad that I had to disconnect the phone from the car and just use the speaker on the phone - that I could hear! But that defeats a lot of the purpose.

It’s volume on listening side in the car, not mic issue.
I can hear the person on the call - just that the volume isn’t all that loud.

Have you tried the settings on your iPhone? There is a max volume (new safety settings on iOS updates). My calls are loud by default. I didn’t do a thing. So again, I’d look to the phone if you didn’t Bimmer code the car default settings by mistake.

Appreciate the suggestions- I can’t find anything in my phone that limits volume. I don’t have a problem in other cars.

Was this car pre owned? No mods? If not, drop it off at a dealer under warranty. Definitely sounds odd.

i'm not 100%, but i believe only the center speaker is used during calls. maybe that little info changes your perspective?

unless i'm wrong...

I think this is the problem I am having. I replaced the center speaker with a coaxial (stock was separate tweeter and midrange) and ever since the iPhone volume during calls or when texts are being read is very low.
OP says he has aftermarket speakers too and if his center is coaxial and not separate that could be his issue.

Oh - I think we lowered volume on center. That is bizarre that it would do that - maybe I can figure out a solution there. Thanks for the suggestion!
