I found a screw in one of my rear tires (currently on stock MPSS). All four tires only have about 1000 km (620 miles) on them. Can I get away with replacing just the damaged rear tire, or is it better to replace both rears?

If replacing both rear tires, would it be okay to run MPSS on the front and MP4S on the rear? Or is it recommended to have MP4S on both front/rear.

As long and fronts match each other and rears match each other. Also not different season tires

I agree with others that just getting it repaired with a patch is likely your best bet.

Now to answer your question: Yes you could technically replace the single tire with an identical tire - with how little miles you have on them this is a safe and acceptable solution. But unless you just like spending money, patching it has a far better value proposition here.

I’ll play devils advocate ?, in case you’re looking for an excuse to get sticker rears. Replace both tires with that favorite rubber you’ve always been dreaming of. Or patch it and keep the entire set as a spare for a whole new set of tires and wheels you’ve been wanting/eyeing ?. It’s really easy to suggest when it’s someone else’s money ?

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'll try and take it to a local tire shop to see if they can patch the tire.

My concern was that the screw very close to the sidewall.

Tire shop might not want to patch it, since it's too close to the edge . They'll probably suggest changing the tires. According to BMW, if you change one tire you'll be fine as long as the tread difference between new and other tire is not greater than 2mm (or 2/32 in freedom units)

Edit: If you end up replacing both , you'll be fine having different models front vs back. I used to have PSS front and PS4S back with no issues

Do you still have a Supra or did you get rid of yours?

I have had screws/nails in fairly new tires. The FOD wasn't deep enough to flatten the tire once it was pulled out. I would pull the screw out with a pair of dykes and see what happens.

appreciate this conversation got a nail right on the sidewall edge today on a rear tire, just 4 months/4,000 miles on it brought it to the local Toyota dealership where I was because I was 60 miles from home and didn't know/trust the local tire shops they said it wasn't salvageable but didnt have a matching OEM Michelin to put on the rim so getting it replaced as a single tomorrow near home
