is it better to go with 255/35/19 or 275/35/19 on the rear?
choices are lm005 for 255/35/19 vs alpin 5/ pa4 for 275/35/19
which is better to get for the winter?

255. Narrower is always better in snow. You want the tire to bite into it, not float on top.

Squared 255s or even slimmer, I actually just got my winter set for pretty cheap. Looked at reviews and found the Nexen WinGuard Sport 2, got them in 245/40R18 $743CAD for all 4 (~543.94USD), pretty good performance from what I've found -- only gonna drive short distances when its clean/plowed anyways so would rather save the cash.

Got them mounted and balanced with Fast Wheels FC04, $646CAD for all 4 (~472.93USD). Pretty popular brand up here, really great value.

But it's still hard to beat Michelin and Bridgestone when it comes to winter tires.

I use Michelin's on all my machines. This is an interesting read overall. Ideally this thread should be renamed Winter Tires not snow tires. Winter tires cover cold, wet - dry road plus snow.
