That's a great result!!I walked in to my local dealership today and was able to place a refundable $500 “deposit” (basically a place in line).
I was #10 on the list.
I don't understand why everyone suddenly is feeling the need to put a deposit on a manual Supra? These cars are $65k, 2 seater cars. There will be plenty to go around. The market is really small for $65k 2 seaters
Especially for the limited run model - if anyone manages to snag one of those at MSRP that's a huge win - especially in this market. You're severely downplaying the current market and the volatility in dealer markups. The point is to lock in an MSRP deal.
I did not have to put a deposit down but I probably would have if required. However, any dealer taking deposits (especially non-refundable) this early when allocations, etc.. are totally unknown is shady.
Which is fine. If people want to constantly have the newest tech. My comment was aimed at people who will never buy and keep nit picking and finding something wrong and making up excuses why not to buy. Has nothing to do with the iPhone generation. We live in the iPhone generation where any new feature justifies upgrading with every new model. Th manufactures love it.
That's been the case for a while. No true orders or matching already set allocation with desired spec.I just chatted with my dealer friend. There is no custom ordering; you can specify your preference but at the end of the day dealers get what they get.![]()

Yes, but what you can get is dealers trading allocated cars to make sales before the cars arrive. That's been the case for a while. No true orders or matching already set allocation with desired spec.
Dealers that are (at least verbally) promising no markups and no “dealer add-ons” are few and far between.I don't understand why everyone suddenly is feeling the need to put a deposit on a manual Supra?
