I’m trying to remove my interior door panel. But I’m having a problem with the screw behind the door lever. Not the two screws that are in the door handle that you pull the door shut with, but the door lever that you open the door with. The single little screw behind a little plastic square panel you pop off.

when I try to unscrew the screw it just keeps turning it doesn’t back out at all, my only option is the drill the head of the screw off at this point unless somebody can tell me another way to get it off. My concern is that once I drill the screw head off and pull the door card off, what is that screw screwing into? Is it a piece of plastic behind something that I won’t be able to get to, I’m just not sure and I don’t want to pull the panel door off and not be able to fix the issue once I put it back together.

would anybody have a good picture of the door after the panels been pulled off?

For anybody else having this issue, the screw behind the door handle goes into this bullshit little 2 peice plastic clip. I managed to break one of mine taking out the door card and had to fish around inside the door for an hour to get the peice back. I think you might only need to rurn the screw 90 degrees to get the door panel out, not remove it completely, but im not sure if the clips will always cooperate.

I removed my screw without a problem and you must remove screw completely. You might need to take a l-shape tool and apply an outward force on the screw head while unscrewing screw.

I removed both side trim panels on 2021 3.0 prem last week fto install puddle lights. That 2 piece clip is pressed together from both sides of the metal. Whoever installs that screw at the factory pushes too hard when screwing it, causing the pieces to separate. The threads are in the back piece behind the metal, but the trim side piece is shaped to fit the square hole through the metal. So the back just spins with the screw in it. I used a forked trim removal tool to pry slightly adding force behind the screw head to pull the pieces together again so they lock and you can unscrew. I would suggest discarding the pieces and either get a new one, or I super glued the pieces together, then added dish soap to the screw when you reattach so it doesn't require so much torque to tighten. Fortunately, most of the force when closing the door is applied to the other two screws. Very poor fastener choice.
