Just went to the dealer to get the update and they told me they replaced the tool they use (tista) with something else and they have no way of updating supras. I feel like I’m being lied to. What do you all think?
You do need to make sure its a dealer that's at least GR certified. The dealer I go to isn't a GR centre but is one of the only ones in the area with a Supra Tech still on staff. If you are in the Birmingham area as your profile suggests i would recommend Stratford-Upon-Avon, They have always been great for me. Id also recommend calling first and booking too, if you just roll up and ask for the update i can see dealers coming up with all sorts of excuses.
And even then, in the USA, you need to make sure they are willing to do the “repair”. Not many imo are up to @FuzzyRev85 standards, imo. We have to get past the sales service tech to the real mechanic back there. Then ask are you comfortable doing X,Y,Z. Nine times outta 10, they will tell you to take it elsewhere. Kudos to the honest shops out there. But you do have to get past the service tech to ask the person actually working on your car. Perhaps park on the side and talk to some people in the actually garage.

Just an FYI that I will be installing an MHD remap soon. Will let you know if this gets rid of hesitation issue.

As a side note I also plan to get their unlocker module which allows the early ecu to be unlocked at home (pre June 2020 cars) without needing to spend a couple hundred quid taking it to a shop for bench unlock. So, anyone UK near me is welcome to use it to save a few ££s. 👍

I did just this and I’m still getting hesitation. Just fyi the unlocker 5th port input goes on backwards per design so don’t let it scare you.

Cheers for the heads up! That is really helpful as I would have stopped emailed mhd etc.. 👍

That’s funny a Toyota dealership claiming to know what they’re doing with this car unlike the others cuase they say they are “GR certified”…

Despite specifically choosing my nearest GR centre (270 mile round trip) and briefing them of the throttle hesitation issue when booking it in, they could no replicate it (obviously) and could not find any updates to apply when checking against the VIN. Told them about the Apple CarPlay dropping too.

Thinking of going MHD in the coming weeks, which I know won't resolve it, but will also make it difficult to have the update applied in the future. Really disappointed :(

That’s why I got the mhd unlocker. I unlocked and tuned for now and when I can find a dealer that is actually willing to do a software update, I will flash back to completely stock deleting the whole thing and once the software update is done I will unlock and tune again.

I also have this device (got it whilst in the states last week), but will be fitting OPF delete and downpipe, so won't want to run on the standard map, plus I'm guessing Toyota won't be interested in the car after that.

Shouldn't be this difficult to get what is a fairly critical safety issue fixed.

I’m pretty sure running the stock map will be completely fine. Plenty of cars that need femto run with mods with no tune. You will get a informative CEL if your downpipe is not a no CEL downpipe

It is very sad that the dealers are unreliable. I guess i got lucky and the tech put some major time in to help (as shown in my guide post a few pages back). The Tech did say they can only claim time for a standard update when doing it under warranty which is close to an hour, they had my car for a week and spent a huge amount more than that going back and fourth with BMW so its a big loss for them to fix. I know when it comes to safety that shouldn't matter but its defiantly why they wont look further after "computer says no" from Toyota. :(😢

Hi everyone,

as the title states…. What’s the best way to get Toyota to update my car. I’ve been suffering with the well documented issue with throttle hesitation that appears to be resolved with a software update.

I’ve heard they are a pain to get them to update the car. Some people have said to just say that apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting.

can places other than Toyota update the cars? Is it the same software as the Z4? And if so can a bmw specialist do it or some other indi? I’m happy to pay…..

Cheers.
Have u tried reset the ecu, by disconnect the negative terminal to the battery wait 30 min then reconnect the negative cable. Start let idle 10 min then take for a drive at that point the ecu Will re learn all values also clear codes. This includes the tcu for the trans.

Yes I have done that. It has been found that it’s a problem with the ECU talking to the fuel pump in the software or something weird like that. It’s fixed on the Z4 side but not on the Toyota software release….
