Winter Tire Sizing (on 18x9)

Hi Folks! Don’t blast me for this the same way I’m going to sand-blast and abuse the supra this winter

Just purchased a winter set of wheels (18x9), square setup. Considering the following sizes for tires:

245/40/18
245/45/18
255/40/18


The recommended tire size for this setup is 255/40/18 in terms of fitment on the wheel.

Thinking of 245 as narrower is better for snow and still fits on a 9inch wheel. The 245/45/18 is closest to stock diameter so I assume this is the best one and leaning towards this. Just looking for other validation/input..

@squirrelysupra sorry to hijack your thread but I'm also looking into an 18in square setup for winters and I'm wondering if 9.5 inches is possible?? Considering the OE front wheels are 9in..... If you (or anyone else) happens to know.

I've also seen that the recommended setup for winter is 255/40R18 so I'm personally going with that.

You don't want to go 9.5 for winter tires. The narrower the better for snow, so you'd rather go 8.5 over 9.5. If you're set on the 255 tires then I guess it doesn't make a difference whether you're 9 or 9.5 though.

I think I might do 245/40/18 in the front and 245/45/18 in the rear. As long as you get non-directional tires, you can cross-swap them so you can run different front and rear tires. Going 45 in the rear to match the diameter more, and extra sidewall never hurt for winter.
