Hey since I clearly have your attention.

Whats the complete shipping costs for that other solution from start to finish and what's the wait time? What carrier is used?

I went direct to Femto. I bought an ECU from an X5 for 400 bucks, it was 200 each way to ship it, and 900 euro's for the clone service. $1800 all in. It took about 10 days, but it was during Christmas holiday.

Why? Unless you're changing parts that require tuning in between a single custom tune is all you need.

If you use a high-traffic dealer to do this process it's about $4800 to get an OTS tune with ECUTEK. From what I see it's about 2 week turnaround. Still always risking your factory ECU getting lost in the mail.

If you do it on your own you will save a buck, but still need to source an ECU. Still have the risk of losing your ECU in the mail, or getting slapped like @zrk did by customs.

I didn't get slapped persay. I forgot to include a document. That was on me. Took a week to sort out. No fees or anything.

I have an early unlocked '21 so I don't necessarily have a dog in this fight. However... Why go through all of the trouble and big $$ expense to end up with an OTS tune...!?

1800 bucks for the unlock and then you can get a custom tune. you aren't stuck with only OTS options..

Carl, you are sadly incorrect. This will not work for custom rom. Also, femto moved out of russia to continue to service companies globally. Why talk trash about them for being russian?

Proper OTS map is still better than a JB4. If I only had 1800 and couldnt afford the cloning id still go unlock for the fuel and piggy it with the jb4. JB4s biggest limiter is the fact it cant control fuel.

my intent is not misinformation and tbh I think femto gets more of a bad rep from the V word.

I have messages between me and one of the big name "tuner shops" for the mk5 where they're claiming to be doing the unlock themselves but in reality have a deal on the backside with the V word, that is the Definition of misinformation

counter to that is abother major "tuner shop" who I conversed the exact same way but were 100% transparent on what I needed to do in order to have them start tuning my car.

because of all that is why I held off doing anything and sought a better solution.

it might not be pleasant or what someone wants to hear but you'll always get raw and unfiltered transparency with me. And if I'm fucked up or wrong then I'll own it and fix myself ??‍

This is literally all you did though? It was definitely your intention lol. Which is fine but dont act like you werent trying to throw shade to show off a mercedes benz on a charger with a laptop and say we have unlocks coming to the US.....

Correct the only way to get this done is it ultimately going to Femto. There's no way around it that, so having visconti taking care of all the logistics or doing it yourself, its still going to femto.

Fact of the matter is the service you think this company is going to provide is not going to be useful for anyone who wants to utilize custom roms so the ECU can control PI, or Boost on an external gate, or Nitrous, or true flex fuel or POSSIBLY even work at all. As long as you realize that cool. Like i said if i didnt have enough for cloning I would still do something similar and piggy a jb4 for EWG control and boost.
