So its time for new pads and rotors. Anyone have recommendations?

I’m not really tracking much, but spend time on the twisty roads.
Seems I need to order sensors as well. Does anyone know where to get these? The rear pads tripped a warning first, then I got a more serious warning about brake service.

I checked the pads and they do indeed only have a few mm left in the rear.

Thanks for any help.

OEM rotors, although from your photos it looks like you have a ton of life left in your current rotors.

Here are your options for those:

OEM rotors (BMW part #'s)
Front Left: 34116860911 (348mm)
Front Right: 34116860912 (348mm)
Rear: 34216860925 (345mm)

Brembo Rotors (people that make the OEM rotors)
Front Left: 09D09413 (348mm)
Front Right: 09D09513 (348mm)
Rear: 09D09613 (345mm)

Out of curiosity and so I can get an idea for my own brake pads since it sounds like we have similar driving conditions, how many miles did you put on these pads?

24k miles, lots of fun and maybe a dozen burnouts. I think that’s what finally tripped the rear sensors

It was my understanding rotors and pads have to be changed at the same time, reducing the likelihood of warping rotors from just swapping pads only?

Warping rotors is a myth. 98% of the time the shudder is from improper bedding-in of new pads.

To be safe, measure the thickness of your rotors to see how much more life you have. Or just swap in new ones and not worry about it. I've for sure been guilty of putting fresh rotors on prematurely.

I don't want to jump the gun, and I've heard both sides from different people.

On one hand, my rotors seem like they have lots of life left. I want to save a buck if possible and just buy new pads. I'm tempted to be a seriously cheap bastard and only swap rear pads for now. (Would this imbalance braking and cause issues under hard brakes?)

On the other hand, I've had some friends with high conviction trying to convince me I have to replace both pads and rotors at the same time to prevent warping. Brakes aren't really something I would cheap out on, especially where I live.

Anyone have a link where to buy new sensors?

You can easily just replace the rear pads without also doing the fronts. Just make sure you bed the pads in properly. The system does the balancing. If you replace with the same compound, there will be no shift.

I've replaced one end no problem and then beat on the car on track from 140mph down to 40mph in braking zones. Safe enough for track, safe enough for street.

Front wear sensor: 34356877085 (bmw part #)
Rear wear sensor: 34356870354 (bmw part #)

I've been pretty impressed with both the cold and warm performance of the CSG 21/11 pads. No track time, just twisty road time. I bought them for this characteristic in part because of the forms of racing you have to do with cold pads.

Would I need to resurface the rotors? My rotors do have a tiny bit of a lip to them.

You can, just note that the slightly thinner size after resurfacing will cause them to change temperature more rapidly.
I mean, if I pad slap it on the rear might just save up the cash for new slotted rotors and pads next time.

The front pads appear to have a ton of meat left on them. I'd just throw a set of rear pads on and be done. I highly doubt you need new rotors either way.

I am surprised the rears went away with that much left on the fronts, though. My experience tracking the car has been the opposite. I started with a new set of Endless pads F/R and have burned through a set of fronts while the rears still have at least 1/2 their life left.

Don’t be that surprised the rears are gone. It’s me we’re talking about.
