1) So, I guess my ECU must be old enough as my car was originally registered is Sept 2019.. (I am 2nd owner)
Does that mean I can go strait to a tuner for remapping stuff without any issues?
2) Can Toyota lock it still during a service with a firmware update? (if so, I bet mine is locked up tight by now!)
3) also, does the JB4 bring anything in my case?
1) Can't recall exactly now (getting old), but around that time Bosch introduced, let's say a "soft" lock and let's call it software lock. You can get it bench/remote unlocked much cheaper and quicker.
This is not the same Lock as Post-June 2020. Let's call those ones hardware locked.

2) Yes, they can lock it and like point 1) you can get it bench unlocked.

3) JB4 brings more powaaaarr! JB4 is pretty much let's call it a potentiometer where it tricks the ECU thinking it's getting more A/F in layman terms thus upping power as many on the forum can attest to. JB4 has different map levels set to your liking.. This is the cheapest way to get more power yet if you start adding full bolt on parts, you'll not get the full benefit or push the engine as much. You'd then need proper ECU tuning Femto way. For most folks, JB4 is sufficient, well most folks like the Supra as is.

OP, Just to clarify, if you can tune, you don't need a JB4.

Ok, that makes sense. The JB4 is just manipulating the various sensors status to trick the ECU into making the adjustments you want. (e.g. turbo boost status has a few PSI subtracted from actual value to get ECU to push it a few PSI harder)

Hit the nail on the head.

Oh one additional point.
Majority of the people prefer JB4 as they believe it will not void warranty and won't show up in logs or whatever. Which is partially true..
And it's easy to just take it out in 5 mins vs just changing to stock tune in 20sec. Lol.
You'll catch on as you read more posts, but just another point. If you get catless downpipe, JB4 won't clear the O2 error permanently, whilst ECU tune will and pops bangs can only be changed with ECU tune. Etc. Have fun ?
