so should i take the back tint off-since its 20% ? And also did you tell them that you were tuned? What questions did they ask you about the car or any reasoning why the car failed at first place?
also did he ask you to go to toyota and get a receipt of the ecu being all
Stock?

I have no clue if that's what will do it or not. I have not tried with my supra but I'm up in VT and inspections are not too far off. I made my catless subaru pass the obd testing. Maybe someone with more bm3 info can chime in.

My windows aren't tinted so that didn't come up for discussion.

They ask me if I tampered with the ECU, I answered yes.
Then he asked me if the car is equipped with a catalytic converter, I answered yes.

What they'll want you to do is return to the dealer and have them flash the stock calibration which locks the DME. Collect the receipt and bring it with you. Once you have all this they'll run a check just like the inspection station. If they are satisfied they'll remove the flag in the system which allows you to return to a normal inspection station to rerun the normal test. When you go to the dealer explain what has happened and they should be able to produce the necessary documentation.

I learned my lesson the hard way. If you're going to mod in Massachusetts, run an OBD readiness check before inspection. As long as the required monitors are ready you can avoid a flash back to stock and still pass.

Yup that's it, no matter how clean the car runs if the monitor is disabled you will be flagged in the state system. What's worse is that the stock map also has this turned off by default. This value can be changed in any OTS maps as well.

should i just tell them the car ecu is stock but i had the downpipe which i replaced and caused me to fail. I dont really want to lock my ecu. 😣😣 then it will need to be resent to femto. Was the inspector really mean? Or he was okay?

If the downpipe caused errors it would show up in test failure page I think. I think since it's blank that tips them off that some tampering has occurred.

This was mine:

You could always try to play dumb and say you had all the tools needed to correct it yourself and just see what happens. Worst is they just turn you away and give you an extension on that big red "R" sticker. The guy I worked with was really nice. While checking over my car he told me stories about some really wild cars that came in with the same flag. He did say that there are state inspectors that are not so nice, best to stay out of the penalty box.

when you showed up first time at the center did you put the tune back to stock? I am thinking about putting the stock tune and play dumb and say i changed the downpipe or exhaust which maybe cause to fail or just speak less possibly. I will just tell them i am willing to do whatever is required to fix the issue. Hopefully the guy is nice and have some mercy lol

Yeah I just put the tune back to stock, confirm OBD readiness with my own tools, then made an appointment to come in. Maybe they'll be nice, maybe they'll make a special case for you. Just give it shot. Worth a try to save another 3k for the Femto deal? No clue what that costs, mine is an early 2020.

Hey OP - how'd it all go? Curious to know this because I'm seriously considering unlocking my 2021 and sending it off to FEMTO.

Thanks!

Still no luck passing the inspection. Put the car back to stock tune. Had all the monitors ready. I guess the firmware doesn’t match with the oem one. Unfortunately the only way to pass is bring it back to toyota and have them lock the dme to factory settings and bring it in.

This should be shared in one of the main channels for everyone with Femto knows
