Anti-Theft System bypass?

I walked in on someone today that had broken into my ‘23 Supra, in drivers side leaning over to passenger side. Words were had, he left (arrested later that day), everyone safe, nothing of value lost.

but, the odd thing is there was no alarm, no indication of a break in terms of damage, nothing. Is there a way to bypass the anti theft system? How’d this guy get into my car as if he had his own key fob? Did some googling and l didn’t find answers, wondering if you experts have any thoughts.

I was working on my car once and forgot to lock it afterwards. Literally the one time I have ever forgotten to lock my car.

The next morning when I woke up to go to work, I found that someone went through it. They stole my empty grocery bags from the trunk. Wasn't sure if I should have been mad or happy that it happened ?

how would they discover its unlocked? I'd never tell the insurance company that lol.

Our neighborhood was hit the other week with guys opening doors, My car is always garaged but even outside I never lock it. Nothing is in it and I've paid for windows before for nothing to be taken. Someone wants in, the door being locked isn't going to stop them. Only thing in there is an iPhone charging cable and the owner's manual. Insurance and registration are on my phone so nothing else in the car.

Anyway, my girl is really really good with locking her car. It even autolocks when you walk away. But they went through all of it. maybe took some change in the cup holder. Down the road they got caught on camera using an extender to unlock cars, so yeah need a Faraday bag now a days, it seems its super easy for them to just walk car to car using an extender and unlocking them, in some cases even able to start it.

how would they discover its unlocked? I'd never tell the insurance company that lol.

Sure, google answers says some comprehensive insurances MIGHT pay out even if the car was unlocked, but what I don't get is how people here seem to be 'bragging' that they don't care if their car is stolen, and taking a $10 precaution is apparently stupid, like, what exactly is the point being made?

Do you guys leave your houses unlocked too and leave the keys at the door just because "they can break in even if my door is locked"? What kind if twisted logic is this

Yeah actually.

I live in Chicago. If someone is going to steal a car or break into my house, let em. I don't give a fuck. Everything I own is insured.

The two previous cars I've had stolen in Chicago, both when I was younger, I also left unlocked.

The second one I didn't tell insurance it was unlocked, the first one I did. Both were paid out just fine. I don't have the time or energy to worry about what other people are doing to do to/with my shit.

Things maybe a little different there than here the US. They would have to prove for a fact we didn't leave it unlocked, not that I have to prove I did lock it. And also. even if they got in, there isn't a programmer out right now that could allow this car to be stolen through means of the OBD2 port. So if they had an extender then maybe they could. Source: i actually work for a company (UK company i might add just the US side of it) that makes key programmers for locksmiths, I do the tech support

I have stuff of value in my home, so no I don't leave it unlocked. Again, in my car I do not have anything of value, and you can't just steal this car by programming another key and driving off. So no, I don't lock it because it's not worth someone breaking a window just to see if anything is worth stealing. I leave it unlocked. I haven't locked a car in God knows how long and I've never ever had an issue with it. One day maybe.. but then I'll call up USAA and they will take care of it like they did when my Hayabusa was stolen. On camera someone came up to it, broke the ignition and was gone in 30 seconds, week later I had a check for the motorcycle. All they wanted was the keys and a police report.


I'm telling you why I don't lock my car. I'm not saying you are wrong or right for locking a car or not. just giving the reasons on why I don't lock it.

Also if you don't have a top tier insurance company then maybe you will have a fight on your hands about any claims.

People deal with risk in many different ways. Some put up defenses such as locked doors and alarms. Some choose to only park in fine upstanding places. Others mitigate risk through insurance. It's an inanimate object and can be easily replaced. Anyways, getting a new car is a new canvas to paint. Some just sing Que Sera Sera and raw dog it.



Myself, I locked the door because the mirrors make me giggle and its the only way I'm sure that all the auxiliary stuff is turned off. Only car I've ever owned where i was never really sure it was off.

I should have mentioned in the original post; when I came out, the mirrors were still folded in and the passenger side was still locked. I know you can press the button to fold the mirrors in and physically press down the lock button, but doesn’t that seem unlikely in a scenario like this? I only say this as I feel extremely confident the door was locked, but I’m not infallible I suppose.

Yeah, sort of!
One of them could go near your house to pick up the signal and extend it to another one standing close to the car and ready to open the door when the signal is picked up. Then they can even start the car and drive off. Its scary how easy it is and I've seen several videos of this happening very quickly.

I always keep both of my keys in Faraday pouches and I reckon that's a pretty cheap fix.

They are relay's, extenders. they just relay or extend the signal.

IDK whats up in the UK with stolen cars, ive never really asked my colleagues there about it, but it seems to be one of the easiest places to steal certain cars.

Now here in the US, with the tool my company makes for locksmiths, there are some cars that i can have a key cut by code off the VIN and programmed into the car in just minutes. Couple mins for the key cut, seconds for the programming. For something like the Nissan systems i can have 2 keys programmed in about 30 seconds after the security bypass, that also takes 30 seconds or so,.

Dodges are also extremely easy. and why they are stolen so much.
