Hello, I have had my 21 3.0 premium for about 4 months now and to say the least it has been a rough ride so far. I have had the following issues as follows:

1. Steering rack had to be replaced as squeaking would occur (Resolved)
2. Driver side mirror vibrates like crazy passenger mirror rock solid (Toyota wanted FTS to take a look at this, Unresolved)
3. Oil consumption issues. Currently undergoing oil consumption test (Unresolved)
4. Oil measure system constantly fails and only usually works after car idles for about 5 minutes and then I test (Unresolved)

Since when my original oil light came on I consumed a little over 2 quarts after driving in normal conditions over ~2800 miles. If my car fails the oil consumption test again I plain to lemon law the car as I'd rather have a whole new car then deal with a potentially improperly built engine. I am currently sitting at 77mm raw oil value (Checked through bimmer link) just after 1200 miles of driving since the oil consumption test has started. No oil light as of now.

This has been my journey thus far and I am curious if anyone else has had oil measuring issues. Even with all of these issues I have been thoroughly enjoying the car but I feel all of this has greatly hindered my experience. Also, doesn't help that I have an AWE exhaust waiting to go on the car as I am unsure what the fate of my car will be...

Sorry to hear about all the issues it can really ruin your experience :( For what it's worth, the oil measuring system seems to work fine for me as per the instructions, I use it frequently ('23 MT base model).

Thanks for the info. I plan to have Toyota address the engine oil measuring system at the same time they conclude the oil consumption test.

UPDATE: Looks like my oil pump is failing according to Toyota. Coincidentally I got a low oil light saying to add 2 quarts after driving for 1300miles right before I brought it in.

Toyota is saying that they might need to replace the oil pump before they can complete the oil consumption test. Hopefully this doesn't mean I have to redo the test...

This is typically indicative of the oil pump failing unfortunately. B58's have plastic internals that fail in the oil pump which cause issues with the oil level measuring. It's expected to become a recall to the few at BMW that I've talked to about this.

Looks like there was a revision to the pump: 15100-WAA02 -> 15100-WAA03

Welp looks like Toyota wont conclude the oil consumption test.

They stated to me that they were unable to conclude the oil consumption test as the oil measurement system is failing. So they have opted to replace the oil pump and then have me redo the consumption test yet again.

Funny thing is the oil measurement system doesn't even show precise oil levels instead it just shows MAX MID MIN. I was under the impression that they measured the oil through draining the oil and measuring the difference from when the car was originally filled up and sealed

My experience with this car has really been hindered with all of this.

I am having the same issue right now. My car is at the dealership awaiting word from Toyota and was told today that it will probably be there for more than a week. I am also experiencing parking brake malfunction error while I was driving over the weekend. Very disappointing right now car is. I had no issues with my 2019 Audi S3. I’ve owned this car for one year now and it’s been at the dealership four times already. Sigh

You are having oil consumption issues and oil measurement issues?

Yes, both issues along with parking brake malfunction!! The dealer said they spoke with Toyota and they have no idea what’s wrong with it and they’re gonna continue to troubleshoot. Who knew that I would have more issues with my Toyota than I did with Audi.

Interesting in my 2021 I cannot measure the oil, always just runs for a few seconds then stops and says engine oil ok .... - I figured it was just because I removed so many modules but maybe there actually is a problem here - has been like this for a while for me

I do not have consumption issues anymore but I use 5w-40 but I did notice during turbo upgrade my oil return feed was covered in oil gunk like what you see with a leak maybe the 0w-20 was getting past a seal there

Your oil pump is for sure the culprit. As others have stated they have since upgraded the oil pump and Toyota even adjusted the part number for it. Apparently BMW made an underground recall for it.

For sure get it fixed while you still have warranty.

Did you have consumption issues on 0W-20? It’s funny because 2020, 2022, 2023 owners never had problems and you mainly only see 22 owners changing to thicker weight

I was consuming oil with 0w-20, I don't anymore

Does anyone with access to TIS know if something has been posted for this? - A bulletin will take me a long way in just getting a free pump since I won't go to the dealer to let them just monkey on my car

Here is a post referring to a TSB

I don’t get why some Supra owners aren’t bothered by the consumption and instead just band aid fix it with thicker oil

Maybe I am a bot but I don't see anything that refers to an actual technical bulletin number where bmw/toyota are replacing these under warranty for people only threads of somebody dropping off the car and expecting the dealer to fix it based on x conditions.

really not sure why people are not doing research on a car before buying it considering the cost of these things just a few minutes on this forum will do wonders. The oil consumption has been an issue with the 2021s for a very long time now and still getting new threads about it :dunno:
