Hi guys, I recently bought an Active Autowerke downpipe because they guarantee no CEL. It was literally at least twice the price of other downpipes.

Unfortunately on the second drive, within the first 100 kilometers of driving, the AA downpipe has thrown a CEL. I am pretty disappointed given this downpipe cost $3,000 AUD, about double the price of other downpipes.

I am not sure how to clear the CEL or even whether I should continue driving the car. Labour rates in Australia are around $120 an hour and it cost me $700 to get it installed, so right now, I am nearly $4,000 in on this mod with a Check Engine Light.

Any advice on what to do next is greatly appreciated.

Start by going over the whole install. Its entirely possible you have a leak. Its really really easy to misalign the V band clamp. Id start by loosening it all up, make sure its aligned, and tighten back down. Also make sure the 02 sensor is plugged in fully and tightened down.

If none of those work, pull the code to make sure its actually an O2 fault, and if so, hit up AA for a new pipe.

Also, don't take it back to that shop because they charged you 6 hours of labor on a project that takes under 90 minutes inclusive of the time it takes to put the car in the air.

Check and make sure install was correct. Also, what is the exact code for the CEL? If all fails, there is a serial # on the outside, and one on the side, (visible only when out of car), of the intake section. Email that to the guys at AA and make sure it wasn't part of a bad batch.

FIND out what the check engine light is for first and go from there. i run catless no tune with the check engine light on and my car runs fine so if there is no issues with the install your fine to drive the car with it on. maybe you need a replacement from AA you could also just clear the code and see if it comes back once you know the install was done correctly and if its repetitive than contact AA

Sounds like a bad batch or bad install. I bought a used one that was basically abused (broken hanger piece) and no cel 5k miles later. I would lift the car up and check if there are any leaks with soapy water (watch YouTube) and if the sensors bolts and connectors are secured. If everything checks out, then I would contact AA.

Make sure the sensor is actually plugged in. Unplug it and plug it back in. Then clear the codes and see if it comes back.

Many of us have had our AA pipes in for a long time without a single issue.

I just competed a DP swap with AA due to the same reason. Their customer service is on point, no hassle. No CEL now.

Thanks for the advice so far. I checked the code:

P0420 - Catalyst System Below Efficiency Threshold Bank 1

I was able to clear the code. Should I expect it to return?

I've had the same issue. As of right now I've been getting the cel after about 3 or 4 start stop cycles. The first time I replaced the dp through aa I have yet to call them again for my second one continuing to get a cel. I sold my original dp so I have to have my car down for awhile to send the old aa dp down to them to have them to send me a new one. (Winter project)
With that being said aa customer service is awesome to deal with.

If you get the CEL for the first time, clear it and it should not come back.
If it does, contact AA and they will take care of it asap

If I continue to get the CEL I’m going to replace my sensors before going back to AA
