ODB2 Scanners should be as common as screwdrivers. 1 trip to the mechanic for a diagnostic pays for the dumb thing 4 times over. It saves you the trip, in many cases helps you sleep at night, and it arms you with info to help guide the service tech person and helps protect you from being taken advantage.

Pulled into my local Autozone last week. A C5 was in the front spot. Engine all over the place. 80 yo silver fox was in a lawn chair off to the side. A kid that that works there was fixing the engine haha.

everyone one I had ever been too, their scanner was non bmw specific.

What was strange is the check engine light went away/off this morning on my way to the dealer.

You added a K&N Filter maybe the oil went all over the Mass Flow sensor and caused a Code??? Not a big fan of oiled filters.

Yep. They will just give you the generic fault code, which is almost useless.
