Increased heat cycles, higher engine loads, boost.

Any solid proof that increasing engine power decreases the B58 reliability?
At this point we should have some hard data on that. Google and forum searching is vague on this.

Vincent Christmastree on YouTube has been pushing his MKV a lot and been tuned forever and I believe he’s over 75k miles super reliable even with his top mount turbo. The key is up keep, frequency of oil changes, quality of oil, etc. This is a sports car not a 2007 Corolla that can be beat to death with minimal upkeep.

Any increase of power will decrease reliability, it was made and given stock power for a reason. Now doesn’t mean the platform can’t handle it, but if you modify it I would never expect same reliability.

I am not speaking from a point of authority (I'm a total dumbass), so take this with the grain of salt...

But I've seen chatter between here, Facebook and other B58 platforms that the "sweet spot" for maintaining long term reliability/making good power on this car is the 550-600 WHP range. Plenty of folks driving their cars a long time making more power than that too, just allegedly seems like the best mix of increased power and reliability.

Just due to a fueling issue if I’m not mistaken. A pump failed or something of the sort, so not really anything to be overly concerned about

Depends on your particular use & goals.

I only know as you add power to the B58 on track, reliability goes down. If putting the car to the limits (pedal to the metal for 30 minute sessions), the guys with power mods, any car, will sit on the sidelines more often. The stock Supras will drive all day long on track. Unless youā€˜re really mechanically inclined to fix what may go wrong. The drag guys are experts at it. And assume it wouldn’t matter too much just driving around town.

Said it somewhere else, buddy had a tune on his. Spent a lot of time on the sidelines. Took the tune off and now he drives entire sessions no issues. Not saying it can’t be done. Look at the GT4 Supra

thats an interesting point of view. My plan is to mod everything from suspension, tires, cooling, brakes, aero, but leave any power mods last.
I may not actually need to do anything besides a DP and be done with it.
I’m not verstappen anyway. Highly doubt that I’m going to put every single HP this car has to offer on the ground.

It depends on how it's driven. If you drive a stock car at 100% and a modded car at 75% the modded car will likely last longer. When someone starts modding their car however, they tend to drive it harder too, compounding the effect. Besides that, there's the tune. A good one will last forever, a bad one 3 pulls on a dyno lol.

If you’re going to track her, that’s going to give you the least down time (on track). These engines do well as is. They provide plenty of power to keep up with and pass plenty of Porsches once you hone your driving skills. And seat time is really where it’s at. Best mod there is for getting better. Enjoy!!

My HPDE instructor said just that. (Maybe because I sucked ??):

ā€œinvest in braking, cooling and tires and that’s all you’ll probably need. The rest would be fractions of a secondā€

So that’s why decided to start little by little adding things here and there and more seat time. So I’m probably on the right path for my humble objective which is: have fun, get better at driving.
