Great add! Yup, bit of a redo of the MR2 one, but at least they are only ripping off themselves. But OMG, could they have chosen a worse song? These needs to be rereleased with appropriate music lol.
Exactly!! Moto-san mentioned on his FB post that Toyota's target is to attract new buyers and not previous Toyota owners. The Who and pinball machines are def not part of the millennials and generation z groups.

Ford did one (and even better then this one) for the Fiesta but this was when arcade games and pinball machines still existed.

So will the supra have that much turbo whistle noise?
Probably not. The fresh BOV sounds will remain with the MKIV.

Blow-off valve
A blow-off valve is not used in current models. Pressure peaks, caused by sudden load shedding due to the inertia of the turbine of the exhaust turbocharger, can be avoided by careful tuning of the Digital Motor Electronics software. With foresighted charging pressure control, pressure peaks can be predicted and reduced by quick adjustment of the electrically-adjustable wastegate valve. Assisted by a delayed load control of the Valvetronic (in the minimum lift direction) or the throttle valve (in the closed direction), the remaining charge air which is produced can be routed to the exhaust emission system via the engine. This form of control thus prevents the exhaust turbocharger shaft from being exposed to excessive torsional stress due to high pressure peaks.

I'd say so! The marketing blitz is in full steam! I just got hit with this on Facebook but I can't find it on YouTube or anywhere else. Hate to post a FB link here but it's all I got right now...

We should just call this one, Toyota fights back at the Internet. Its captioned with...

"Toyota knows that sometimes you just need to feel it instead of listening to the opinions of others" lol

Toyota Says Supra Pinball Ad Was Not Inspired By '80s MR2 Spot
Decide for yourself.

Toyota livened up this year’s otherwise boring Super Bowl with the debut of their first major 2020 Supra ad. While it’s easy to assume that Toyota used its finest marketing tools for a fresh Super Bowl theme, a quick peek into Toyota’s past gives us reason to believe a classic 1980s commercial for the MR2 sports car served as inspiration for the Super Bowl spot.

In 1985, Toyota aired a commercial for the first-gen MR2 called “Pinball Machine,” which featured the little red sports car running around a life-size pinball machine, weaving around obstacles, and getting some serious air. Also part of the fun is the MR2 driver’s wonderful, 1980s-appropriate mustache.

The modern 2019 Supra version, named “Wizard,” strikes a similarly upbeat pinball theme. Set to The Who’s “Pinball Wizard”, the ad features plenty of flashing lights, engine noise, and tire squeal. Noticeably missing, however, is the prior ad’s glorious display of facial hair.

Despite the similarities between the two commercials, a Toyota spokesperson told that us any resemblance is coincidental.

“We are aware of the MR2 spot from the 1980s but it wasn’t an inspiration for “Wizard” nor is ‘Wizard’ a sequel...With a nod to the legacy of Supra, we display the superior handling and striking lines under the lights of a timeless challenge with the hard driving beats of The Who’s ‘Pinball Wizard’ soundtrack.”

Though the current Supra and classic MR2 are vastly different machines, both represent high points in Toyota’s performance car heritage, even if they do so in slightly different ways. Whereas the tiny 1985 MR2 relies on a mid-mounted 1.6-liter DOHC inline-four engine, which makes just 112 horsepower, the 2020 Toyota Supra uses a front-mounted BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 335 horsepower.

Still, both are rear-wheel-drive sports cars that prioritize driving enjoyment above all else: the MR2 courtesy of its lithe 2400-pound curb weight and the Supra (which weighs a comparatively heavy 3,397 pounds) by way of its outright power.

Though the two commercials may share no intentional commonalities, we argue that it isn’t hard to connect the advertising dots – especially for Toyota sports car fans. Check out both videos below to see the two ads in all of their glory and decide for yourself if the lineage is there.

It could be they just didn't even know about it till the internet pointed it out lol. Doubt they have anyone working in marketing still who was there in the 80s.

We need to bring back the Toyota jump!
+1
I bet that spokesperson wasn't even born yet when the MR2 commercial aired.

There was a campaign that Toyota did on FB that was hilarious. They asked for people to upload images of them with their Toyota doing the jump.

"Gravity & Resonance" add is on YouTube now.

Kinda funny the last scene they chose to put in the add is the drivers foot pressing the gas pedal next to just one, obviously automatic brake pedal lol
