Changing Tyres

I need to change the stock tyres (SuperSport). I bought the Pilot4s 275/35ZR19 100 Y *(rear) and 255/35ZR19 96Y *(front). Maybe it is me but it looks like the thread of the front and the rear is different. Is this normal? Did anyone notice this? Also the 275 is softer than the 255. How was your experience after "upgrading"?

edit: Upon further review and zooming in on the photo the one on the right is absolutely different and does not look right. I just installed the same tires on my car and the one on the left looks like the correct style tire.

I shouldn't even say style, it almost looks like when the tire on the right was being manufactured the grooves in the tire weren't cut out right. They're almost non existent on the center treads which won't matter a ton when they wear but the outside ones are extremely thin

This doesn't "fix" your problem, but the P4S is an interesting tire, and there are a bunch of variations of it (tread compounds, etc.) because it's the OEM tire for a lot of sporty cars. You may very well have 2 different variations of the tire between front and back.

When you say the rears are softer - are you measuring this with a durometer gauge?

This isn't on a Supra, but I do have experience with the P4S on a track-prepped Cayman S. I put 5000 miles on the Cayman in 10 days, including 7 time trials, an autocross, and 2 skidpad sessions. The P4S still had a decent amount of life after that torture test, it was still quiet on the street, and it was still more than passable in the rain. It's an EXCELLENT tire that gives up grip to the really fast street tires (200 treadwear tires like the RE71RS, etc .), but is far more livable on a daily basis.

*Edit* It's also not unusual for tread design to vary between sizes...granted a 255 and a 275 aren't all that different. You'll see tires that have large outside tread blocks and thinner inside blocks have a differing # of thinner tread blocks depending on width of the tire.

I was also going to mention this as well. I was trying to look them up based off the numbers I was seeing on the tire but was not able to determine anything off the stickers that were still on either tire.

The ones I just had installed on my Supra were the BMW spec tires. From what I was told those ones are supposedly the "better" tire for grip and fitment/looks. They will all fit the same but something to do with the sidewalls poking a little further out than the rim for the bmw spec ps4s

Do they have the BMW STAR logo on them?
If yes, they're OEM spec tire, if not, they're "replacement" tire rated. Yes, they can all be PS4 but have very different specs on them..


Also, are they produced in the same country. What's the DOT code on both..

They all have the (*) BMW star and they are all made in france. it seems that the 275 have simply deeper threads.

I confirmed it with Michelin that front tyre is supposed to be like that.

I installed them on the car. Drives fine.
