My new Supra is coming sometime next week. I was planning on getting an Active Autowerke Catted DP sometime soon after the car comes. Someone mentioned it’d be a bad idea to run a downpipe without having a tune, and if I do plan on installing a downpipe to do it properly, with a tune.

The only two mods for my Supra I really planned on doing was black exhaust tips (which I’ve already bought) and the active autowerke catted dp. If I really do have to hit it with a tune I might just forget about buying a dp.

Tune is always recommended, but it won't hurt running the car without one. I think I had my catless on for months to a year before doing anything. I'm sure others will chime in.

That’s very close to my set up. I also have an MST intake but that does nothing but make cool noises. The only other difference is I have a JB4. I had the DP on for a short while before adding the JB4 and a custom Jesse map 6. The car ran perfectly fine. Couldn’t feel any difference power wise but then again it’s hard to feel such a small increase seat of pants. I think (just from scanning threads over the years-could be full of shit) that there is a small impact with the waste gate I believe. Again, I may be full of it but I think I remember reading about the change in back pressure can confuse the car a little and cause slightly early closures or something. Regardless, I couldn’t tell on my car.
What I CAN tell a significant difference is running the JB4 map 6. I’ll bet it adds at least 50 WHP with the piggyback and DP. Midrange in particular really pulls noticeably harder. And a custom map 6 tune will account for your mods so the car still runs smooth as stock. Just keep an eye on the forums. People move on from their Supras or go a different mod route and remove JB4s frequently. You can pick one up for $3 -400 then add A Jesse custom map 6 and you’ve spent $1000 or less for another easy 50ish very noticeable WHP.

Not at all. The additional flow of the downpipe, and the minor increase in the speed at which your turbo will spool up, is well within the stock parameters of what the DCM/ECU will naturally adjust to .

Yeah its fine, especially with AA dp. your throttle will manage the extra "unexpected" boost from the freer flow.

Here is what the data looks like from a 20 minute session at gingerman with a catless downpipe and exhaust running map 0 on a JB4 (fully disabled, just for logging purposes). I've filtered datapoints where pedal is less than 90% of WOT. It's fine.

Thank you all! Was also wondering if it’d be okay to install the downpipe before break in (1200 miles)

I was hoping to buy and get it installed pretty quickly after getting my Supra. But not sure if I should wait a bit or not.

You don't need a tune with the catted AA downpipe. If it was catless then yes highly recommend especially because of the CEL.

I would wait for break in and then install the downpipe, enjoy the car stock a little.

We're an AA dealer and have their new catted downpipes in stock!

Appreciate the response! Is the new catted dp essentially the same one as the old one but it just includes the turbo flange gasket? There’s no difference in sound/noise level correct?
