A truck in front of me picked up a bolt on the freeway and threw it at me. Left a nasty scar on the hood of my 3 month old car. Is this going to be too much for touch up paint to hide?

Is it too much? No.

Will it be clear a repair was made? Depends on the tools used and the skill level of the person doing the repair.

Dr Colorchip would be best if you want a DIY approach.

A skilled auto detailer would be ideal, assuming they can secure your paint color.

Even a highly skilled detailer can only do so much with touch up paint. It may still be noticeable that a repair was made.

I'm not too concerned about it being a noticeable repair; it doesn't have to blend in perfectly. But I don't want to make it look worse than it already does lol

Hard to tell exact scale, but it doesn't look too deep nor too wide to be sufficiently repaired with normal touch up options.

Since it's so new, probably best to take it to a professional detailer and have them use their tools and expertise.

Their biggest challenge will be paint matching, Stratosphere is a relatively newer paint and getting the metallic mixed in appropriately adds to that.

Stratosphere is known as Portimao Blue in the BMW world. Dr. Colorchip does seem to carry both options.

Could you make it look worse? Yeah maybe, if you just drip it on with a paint brush. Finesse and patience needed.

I have used both Dr. Colorchip and Scratches Happen kits with excellent results. I definitely think you could achieve a result you’re happy with in your specific case

Fill it, let it cure for some weeks, lightly wet sand it and polish - boom done.

OP, Did you ever end up getting it fixed?
Not yet, still planning on a Dr color chip fix but I haven't had time to do it yet. I'll update with pics when I do.
