Saw this posted on a MKV group. Larger 6” tube and filter. Think the 6” would be worth switching to from an Armaspeed intake? Stage 2 tuned stock turbo, 4” exhaust.

my question is if there is heat soak or not vs the "box" type intakes.

i really prefer this look, I can understand why they did it; setting up the tooling for injection molding is probably too expensive for the knockoffs to follow.

im not sure it will be worth the switch if you already have an aftermarket intake, but the new MST intake looks great

It'd be nice to have some data on temps and if there would be heat soak.

Re: the open slit on top of the box, is that supposed to be like a "ram air"? Does the hood press up against the back of that top slit to prevent sucking hot air?

Any idea if it fits the factory strut braces? Can't find any pictures with it and the braces, but based on the pics I've seen it appears it should fit?

Reached out to MST as well, will comment if they reply.

Definitely curious if it ends up being louder than armaspeed but not a fan of that shielding design tho

Will it heat soak? Probably... could always try to mitigate it with gold reflective type type on the plastic pieces and/or an aftermarket cold air duct like the Verus Engineering product.

Looks great though, definitely curious how it sounds.

If it was a complete closed box id consider it. Don’t want no heat soak
This ☝
They probably offer a close box top. Mine has a plastic see through cover option. I wish I had the black one now. Bitch to clean, lol. Hindsight is 20/20. I‘d probably go with Injen if I were to do it again.

AI ? summary from their own sites:

Airflow Source
-MST V2 intake system combines fresh air from the front grill area with some air from the engine bay. While it includes a heat shield to reduce heat soak, it is not fully enclosed, meaning some hot engine bay air may mix with the intake air. This design prioritizes airflow volume and sound over strict isolation of cold air.
-Injen's SP series cold air intakes (e.g., EVO2300) are designed to pull air from behind the front bumper, completely isolating the intake from engine bay heat. This ensures that only cooler, denser air enters the engine, maximizing performance gains.
-HKS cold air intakes typically use a sealed or semi-sealed intake box to isolate the filter from engine bay heat. This design focuses on maintaining lower intake temperatures for consistent performance.

Tubing Design
-MST V2: Features a 4-inch aluminum intake pipe and an upgraded silicone turbo inlet (3.5 inches in diameter). The piping is designed for improved airflow but is not as focused on thermal insulation as some competitors.
- Injen: Utilizes 6061-T6 aluminum tubing with smooth transitions to reduce turbulence and restrictions. Their patented MegaRam (MR) and Air Fusion technologies optimize airflow without requiring additional tuning.
- HKS: Uses carbon fiber or aluminum piping with streamlined designs to minimize resistance and improve airflow efficiency. The tubing is engineered for specific vehicle models to ensure optimal fit and performance.

Cold Air Delivery
-MST V2: Delivers cold air through a combination of front grille airflow and partial exposure to engine bay air. It is less effective at isolating cold air compared to fully enclosed systems, which can lead to some heat soak during extended high-performance use.
-Injen: Fully isolates the intake system by placing the filter in a location away from engine bay heat (e.g., behind the front bumper). This results in more consistent cold air delivery, especially during track or high-temperature conditions.
- HKS: Encloses the filter within a specially designed intake box that isolates it from engine bay heat while still allowing high airflow. This approach strikes a balance between airflow volume and temperature control.

FWIW MST replied back and shared " our intake is designed to avoid the strut bars ", I assume that means it's compatible.

Also found a marketing video MST made showing it installed with an aftermarket strut brace so it should be good with stock.
