Yes, you need a new valve cover now. 11201-WAA03, comes with new gasket for it and the HPFP.

Hopefully no long term damage as IDK how long it’s been this way at LEAST a week since the oil change

Photo doesn’t do it justice but… like a puzzle piece you can line it up with every grain and groove broken off so fingers crossed

You sure the shop didn't do it? Only way I can see this happening is if some one hit the engine cover really hard when they were trying to mount the cover back on...

playing the blame game may not work in my favor I’m just keeping my fingers crossed the pro shop I always take it to finds zero further issues and it’s simply just a replace and forget I’m frustrated but it could be worse

with that hole there you would have oil everywhere. so it has to be recently done. especially since they would need to R/I the engine cover to remove the oil filter. Exactly what @Eastwood said

This is the cracked valve cover design, just like they do the connecting rods and caps. Fine German engineering.

Lmaoooo so the shop that does my oil changes is local and the shop that does major work like when I installed my turbo is in Connecticut it’s definitely recent. Possible the local shop

I’ve seen this a few times. It happens when you un-snap the 2 front retention tabs then just yank the cover up to un-snap the 2 rear ones. Looks like someone was in a hurry to get that oil changed.

That’s a great way of thinking about it. You are much more calm than I would be, but it is what it is. Good luck.
