I’m working on my steering wheel again to install a new steering wheel, and I ran into a strange issue with the airbag removal. A while back, I took the airbag off once before to install paddle shifters, and everything worked fine. This time, when I try to depress the spring on the left side of the wheel, I can feel the spring being pushed in, and the airbag does shift slightly, but there’s no “click” or release like there used to be.

Oddly enough, the right side spring works as expected—when I push it in, the airbag clicks and starts to come out. So now the right side is loose, but the left won’t budge beyond a little movement.

Is it possible I broke or bent the spring on the left side during my last removal? Or maybe it’s just misaligned?

Those springs would be way to beefy to damage during removal or at any time really. Springs are tough things. May be something else restricting the spring travel. Are you pushing the airbag inwards as you manipulate the spring to take the load off the spring retaining legs. Is the tip of your screwdriver too sharp and going between the spring coils instead of pushing it.

Yeah I’m pressing down the airbag as a push with the screwdriver. I’ll see if a different tip will help. I’ll send a video if it helps

Another video ignore the foot but I can hear and feel the spring being pressed but still doesn’t unclip.

I’m having a similar issue but the bottom part of the airbag won’t come out and I feel like the airbag is too far out to touch the springs

What should I do? Drill a bigger hole in the side of the wheel? I’ve tried pushing everything in but it’s stuck in a middle position

found out my spring connection was snapped. Might have to brute force it out?
