I’m working on my steering wheel again to install a new steering wheel, and I ran into a strange issue with the airbag removal. A while back, I took the airbag off once before to install paddle shifters, and everything worked fine. This time, when I try to depress the spring on the left side of the wheel, I can feel the spring being pushed in, and the airbag does shift slightly, but there’s no “click” or release like there used to be.
Oddly enough, the right side spring works as expected—when I push it in, the airbag clicks and starts to come out. So now the right side is loose, but the left won’t budge beyond a little movement.
Is it possible I broke or bent the spring on the left side during my last removal? Or maybe it’s just misaligned?
