Just heads up to you guys in Hurst TX. If you are a member of Costco you know they have an auto buying program that can save you BIG$$$. Just got off the phone with Costco Auto buying and was told that as of right now the only dealer participating in their program for the Supra is in Hurst TX. Freeman Toyota. I wish it was closer to me but that's ok I need to sell my truck first before the Supra. That should be enough time for a dealer near to be on be on the Costco program.

You guys are greeting screwed. Up here in Canada, we had our dealerships reminded about their contractual obligations.
Different laws over here in the US. Toyota could had sent an email like that to dealers in the US too, but legally dealers could sell the car to whatever "market adjusted" price they see fit. Those dealers hurt Toyota's brand image, but some are more worried about the money they can get today opposed to the business they can make in the future.

However, none of this would be possible if buyers weren't willing to pay those prices (or dumb enough).

As I mentioned in another thread last night, there is a turbulence gray 3.0 premium at Pearson Toyota in Newport News VA. In the showroom they are asking $10K above MSRP. But on AutoTrader, they advertise the car for $3800 below MSRP.

I think if someone was savvy about Virginia consumer laws, they could require the dealer to honor this advertised price (would probably be easier if you were a Virginia resident). I did some research on this, and Virginia code 59.1-200 paragraph 8 seems to be the relevant law here:

8. Advertising goods or services with intent not to sell them as advertised, or with intent not to sell at the price or upon the terms advertised.

In any action brought under this subdivision, the refusal by any person, or any employee, agent, or servant thereof, to sell any goods or services advertised or offered for sale at the price or upon the terms advertised or offered, shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this subdivision.
If you're looking for a 3.0 premium it would be worth pursuing this I think. Pictures of the car/color in this other thread here:

From Autotrader's site:

General Provisions

B. The material that appears on the Autotrader Sites is for general informational purposes only. While we aim to provide a site that is useful, be mindful that the Autotrader Sites may, from time to time, contain errors. The Autotrader Sites includes materials and information collected from and provided by third parties that we may not have evaluated or reviewed. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or reliability of any of the materials or information on the Autotrader Sites, and you should not rely on it without independent verification.

Buying and Selling Vehicles

A. The Autotrader Sites is a vehicle listing and information service that brings together buyers and sellers. Autotrader is not a party to any transaction between vehicle buyers and sellers that originates on or through the Autotrader Sites. Information about a particular vehicle is supplied by the seller, not by Autotrader. The price and other terms of any sale remain subject to direct negotiation between the buyer and the seller.

Not a lawyer, but I believe that Pearson will have an out as the price as shown on Autotrader is not the price as advertised by Pearson. One may recover some damages from Autotrader but I highly doubt Pearson will be held liable for the discrepancy.

However, if this is a highly desirable vehicle there may be some worth to seeing how it would play out; if you have the time.

I think Autotrader is just covering their butt, like a newspaper also would when publishing ads from a car dealer. Really, the dealer is responsible for their advertising and published prices and that is where the state laws come in. State law would hold the dealer accountable for those numbers. There are probably ways to determine who/when/how that price was set if it came down to it. I think there are also formal procedures they need to follow to properly correct errors in advertising and they would need to show they made that effort prior to someone trying to buy at the current live advertised price.

I noticed all of Pearson's cars on Autotrader show a pretty good discount, so I suspect it's standard procedure for them to knock off a certain percentage for Autotrader listings. I guess their internet department didn't get the memo that the Supra was supposed to be MSRP + $10K.

Yeah that seems more like CYA on Autotrader's part that is meant to protect them and not so much any dealership in the event of a lawsuit. Assuming that it is an authorized representative acting on behalf/at the direction of the dealer to make that post and not some random third party that's putting it up there to troll, I could see this being a good way to get a good deal on a nice looking grey Supra. ;-)
