I’ve got a ’22 Supra with a CAI and catless downpipe, but no tune yet. Do you think it’s fine to run like this for a couple months (or even years), or am I risking issues? If I do decide to tune, I was considering JB4, would that be enough, or is it worth getting the ECU unlocked instead?

You're safe to run without a tune, but a totally stock tune Supra that's catless can end up with throttle closures which will hurt performance and/or make acceleration less smooth.

With JB4 you'll gain some power but definitely would want to get some custom map 6 help from the JB4 log review thread / Coloneladama, or pay for Jesse to make a map 6 with you. It'll run a lot better than any of the JB4 pre-made maps.

ECU Unlock isn't really worth it unless you plan to upgrade the turbo or really want to max out the stock turbo, imo. (At least, my Jesse tune is super smooth and makes good power, I believe that the fuel pressure upgrade has greatly helped make JB4 smoother than it was previously. Having tried MHD-tuned B58's before, I wouldn't pay $1k+ for an unlock for MHD/BM3 at this stage unless I upgrade the turbo, but that's my opinion.)

Edit; Clarified the 3rd chunk a little better

Having run both the JB4 Jesse Map and MHD OTS stage 2, there isn’t a comparison for smoothness and drive ability. An unlock is worth every penny. JB4 makes power, feels jerky and never quite drove right for me. MHD is night and day, go unlock/tune.

Depends who tunes the Jb4 ;)

You aren't wrong that MHD is smoother out of the box, but a properly tuned JB4 should drive as smooth as stock

Jesse seems to be well respected, but when you go to an unlocked car it’s a huge difference. No comparison

I actually thought my car had an issue, you even looked at a log for me! I unlocked and when MHD and it’s been super smooth (so far). Just a catted DP for mods.
