Track day upcoming

What’s up guys
Hoping someone can point me to a good 200tw tire for track use..
Road course ( robling road raceway)
Car is lowered but no other suspension mods..

I did track days for many many years ( in a 86 Porsche 911) but haven’t been to the track in about 4 yrs…
Only been out with the supra a few times 4yrs ago and just used the stock tires ( which were not great)..
Back in the day I ran Toyo ra1 but they do not come in the supra sizes and I’m sure tech has moved forward since..

if any one has a suggestion to what tire they like and recommend pressures I would very much appreciate it..

Wheel size is important some sizes are not available in some brands.

Finalists:

Kumho V730:
good grip, good heat resistance, good wet performance. Very cheap. Can’t find it in R18. So if you are looking for 275/35/R18 you are out of luck. Not until next year.

Bridgestone RE71S
A favorite here. Excellent dry and wet performance. Less heat resistant than the V730 and More expensive. Available on R18 size. The experienced track guys here that do Time trial like it because warms up quickly for a hot lap or two, but longer HPDE sessions with sustained heat may be an issue when it comes to durability. Maybe the fastest tire? But only experienced people can get those fractions of seconds consistently so it should not matter much for not experienced drivers.

Victra RC1
This is a durable TW100 tire. Is barely street legal with only 2 mid threads. Excellent dry grip cold from pits, underperforming, and actually not recommended on wet conditions. Not that expensive. Slower than RE7 for the good drivers, does not fall off the limit that fast. Has better heat resistance than RE7, so probably as durable or better for HPDE.

Michelin Sport Cup 2:
It’s a good tire but seems to not perform at the level of the above mentioned TW200 and is very expensive.

The rest of the TW200s seem to be OK but when reading reviews and listening to opinions, they don’t come up frequently on recommendations. Also: these are all summer tires and low temperatures are bad for them. So if you are outside of the heat belt these coming months, maybe not a great idea.

* why not use a good street tire with higher TW that is durable has good grip wet and dry, lets you know when approaching the limit and is not that expensive, as you get back into the track? - I went with my Continentals and they worked really good.

I try to run my tires between 32-34 hot. So for me starting pressures change during the day as in south FL the day gets hot and the track may reach 120F or more.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Outright speed? Bridgestone RE71RS, Nankang CRS, Yoko A052

Good speed / cost ratio? Kumho V730, Goodyear Supercar 3

Decent speed / wear ratio? Conti Force, Falken RT660, Maxxis VR1

I would add that V730s are not good in the wet, particularly after some wear as the outer shoulder turns basically into a slick. They're a great value for speed and durability otherwise.

Agree, but to be honest, every 200tw I have had has tried to kill me in the rain at some point. Drifting 2-3 lanes on the hwy not by choice is delightful.

Sorry! I’ll be using factory 19” ..thinking 265/35F-285/35R
I have pilot super sport mounted on those wheels now... 265/295… should I just stick with those?
A 300tw tire isn’t great for track work..

car has a pure800 93oct tune so trying to get as much tire as possible on stock wheels..

PSS are an OK tire.

The next step would be PS4S and the better and cheaper Conti Extreme Sport 02

Then the above mentioned TW200s.

I would invest in better brake fluid and go
With the PSS and see how you feel?

EDIT: a great advice came up above: these TW200 are not good on a downpour. So if you drive the car on the street, use your PSS or upgrade to contis or PS4S and cal it a day.

For a second set of track dedicated wheels the TW200 and TW100 are great.

V730 on R19 you will only get 275/35 and 305/30

RE7 you can get the sizes you want

I did track days for 15+ years prior to getting the supra..advanced/instructor with the PCA…
I definitely understand the importance of good fluid… my fear is I haven’t been out for a long while and in a car with a few more horsepower and not having enough tire to hold it or burning through tires…
I definitely APPRECIATE YOUR FEEDBACK…

BTW.. I have ps4s on the car now.. I don’t think they are great tire for the street so definitely wouldn’t be great at the track.. and I know the pilot sport will be garbage on track..the few times I have taken the car out on track were on the super sports…

After some reviewing I’m probably gonna go with either Bridgestone or Nanking…
Mid 30s hot is a good target for temp?

Mid 30s is what I’ve seen people doing and what I was recommended to reach hot: 32-34 ish

Tire grip means more than width. If you need a more all-rounder that won't try and kill you as much in the rain, I would look towards the 200tw Continental ExtremeForce

In the rain, yes. Outright speed on track, no.
