What do you guys think the competition will be? I think they will be going after the Nissan Z, Cayman, F-Type, and maybe base C7.
your list is all over the place..no way on the Z, perhaps the next gen, but the current one is closer to a pony car & 86 competitor but in reality it currently doesn't have any direct competition at $29 K but I also doubt the next gen would be priced higher than their Q60S..

the main competitor in my eyes was always and should be the vette..

i guess everyone was expecting a 911 fighter from this article. but in reality they were probably just testing it for the LC.
..quite possibly the case considering that this 911 has been the only car we've seen driven by an asian..

but at the same time it wouldn't have been farfetched to think the 911 was part of the supra development, they benchmarked the cayman's handling when they developed the 86 twins.

..though it does worry me that the m2 would even be touched as a benchmark..sure, it is the most dynamic BMW currently for sale by virtue of merely being the "lightest" of the M cars but you would think there are better cars out there for them to test. I hope this doesn't turn into the BMW politics limiting performance which I still fear will affect the development..

If they're benchmarking the M2, what a tremendous disappointment.

well i think this prototype could just be the mid trim level. most likely the 6 cylinder turbo model with the B58. im pretty sure they are just wanting to see if it can match or exceed a soon to be last gen M car. like in the same way the new G30 M550i is quick than F10 M5.

I don't think they are bench-marking the M2... in front of the 'Supra' is a Mercedes GL/ML(?) SUV... so to me it looks like they are just out on the same session.

The right hand rear quarter looks quite impressive as do the current wheels.. just wish the front end has something better under the covers than the recent renderings!

Sorry I should have said next Z. Rumor mills are saying TTV6 for the Z35. I included the Cayman because in the EVO interview Tada san was supposedly quoted saying that is what they were aiming for.

Totally agree on the C7. Growing up I always heard people referring to the old Supra as the "Japanese Corvette".

Like everyone else I'm just hoping Toyota gets this car right. What we know for sure so far is these cars share a chasis. I'd think with the help and expertise of BMW and the LFA previous engineering; the chasis may not be better but may be as good as the LFA. That being said the handling should back this car up much like the LFA and 86. Now it comes down to what's under the hood, how much power, and transmission. I personally expect a true Supra successor or a poor mans LFA with a retractable spoiler at a Toyota sticker price . But maybe I'm just dreaming too much.

how are you measuring success? only if they sell the most in the class? from everything I've seen and read the GS F has been well received, even more so than the RC F..4.5 sec 0-60 for an all motor lux sedan is quite adequate especially for the crowd that would even be interested in picking up a Lexus.. lol funny how you use "cheaper" as a reason to not get a GS F while you list the $10 K premium before accessories & taxes between it and the m5..performance and msrp wise the GS F fits well between the M3 and M5. no need to diss toyota's performance cred, they have sold arguably the widest selection and range of performance cars especially compared to all the other economy brands..

good review here..
This one too.

Anyone else notice the 603mm on the rear fender, and I can't make out what it says on the front, but I would assume it's something to do with the suspension?
On the front I think it is either 614 or 644, hard to tell.

It looks a lot better in these latest spy shots with the bigger wheels and lowered suspension. It gives me hope that the finished product will be a looker. Though I'm still worried about whats under hood.

I have been reading that the prototype is fitted with fake bumpers to hide the real design.
