OEM Supra wheels on a 2020 Z4 M40i

The wife and I put these on this morning. Measured with the tires they are 6 pounds lighter per corner. It looks much better imo. With the summer rubber on and recent Stage 2 upgrades it's ready for her to take to the road course.

Looks like a unflattened version of the 4-cylinder wheels. Which, until right now, I thought they were the same.

I actually like the original BMW wheels better. I'm not a huge fan of the stock Supra wheels although my car has them and I'm not going to update to anything else. Has anyone else heard of the odd numbered spoke principle with wheels? Odd numbers of spokes generally look better than even numbers and I tend to agree. Although the BMW wheels have 10 spokes but because they are arranged in pairs it lends itself to the Odd numbers theory and appearance. The STD Supra wheels do not,10 evenly spaced spokes. I guess it's like the Architecture Golden ratio where it just looks "right" an odd number of spokes.

I've never heard of this. And I don't think most people are paying attention to this detail when they determine if they like a set of wheels. I've also seen many many 3 and 5 spoke wheels that I very much dislike. Plus many wheels have too many to even count or notice a difference for +/-1 spoke. For me it's color first, then design. Think about it...when you see a vehicle in motion can you count the spokes? What about seeing a car in the parking lot at a distance?
For me it is the following - for light or bright paint colors for the vehicles, the wheels look better with contrast - so darker colors. And vice versa.
And the design is just attributes of sportiness, perceived lightness, concavity, etc.
So the look and design of the BMW wheels definitely aren't bad but they would look better against the BMW purple or black vehicle paint vs the current Sea Breeze Blue vinyl wrap. The same thing goes for the cerium gray trim vs gloss black - gloss black looks better here.

I notice. Wheels and lug pattern need to have a common denominator, otherwise they look unbalanced to me. 6 spoke wheels look weird on 5-lug cars because of the anti-symmetry. Same with 5-spoke wheels on 4-lug.

5 spoke obviously looks good on 5 lug. 6 spoke looks good on 4.

10-spoke can run on either because you either have radial symmetry (lug-spoke-spoke, repeating) or bilateral symmetry (each spoke has a mirror)

It's pretty much a subconscious thing the mate that mentioned it to me said. When you see a wheel design that you really, really like it's almost always an odd spoke number design. Thats the theory. Just interested on whether or not there's something in it.
