Idk about driver of the day, but what Max did in a car that a month ago was horrible I think is pretty good, and as most of y’all know I’m the first to slag Max. He was back to his old self blowing an Apex and running Lewis to the run off in the sprint. But I thought he had a great drive. Was also great for team papaya. I’ll be torn if/when Lando and Kimi start going truly head to head. Is it wrong I kinda enjoy Russel getting shown up a little? He talked a little smack when he went to the Mercs and a new car showed up and he was beating Lewis, now a new car shows up and Kimi is doing well. I’d love for him to win it all this year. If not still hoping Lando can go back to back.

I still don’t know what to think of the racing. I was installing a turbo kit on a GR86 during the race and was listening more then watching. It’s just not the same and I can see it in my F1 groups. Just not the same excitement as years past. Anyway, hoping for something…. Better… in Canada.
I think it was more about the Red Bull car being better than about Max driving better.

I still question it being a good drive. He was outpaced by the Mercs and McLarens as expected, and only beat the Ferraris because Charles binned it and Lewis had damage from the start from Colapinto. We also didn't really get to see Verstappen vs Gasly in a decent Alpine. With how durable hard tires are, I didn't really see keeping the tires going for 50 laps to be any crazy feat.

I'm curious to see the upgrade package Merc brings to Canada. Miami was close but it feels like the gap is going to open again. I'd be concerned if George is still behind Kimi after the upgrade package. Based on the news I heard, he didn't really find a good setup until he tried Kimi's setup late in the race, and was immediately matching Kimi for pace; also George did say he doesn't really like Miami.

Still hard to say with the racing. Miami is really friendly for these regs and the revisions seem to have improved things, but it's only been 1 race.

I agree 100%.

I really wonder if Kimi can keep up this driving pace? Or will he relax a bit and find George right back with him in terms of speed.

I think Ferrari are really closer to the front than they showed in Miami. But I wouldn't be surprised either way about Merc's performance in Canada. They could be clearly back out front, or they may not be any better at all. The people at McLaren seem to do a better job week in and week out, making their car better than the others do.

I'm on my way to Sebring to watch the first of 2 GT4 America races. There will be 3 or 4 Supras in the field and one of them is currently the points leader... of course it's still very early in the season.
With any luck I'll have photos here in the next day or two.

I suspect it may play out a bit like Piastri/Norris last year - a few more years experience on Georges side could see him cope with the stress/pressure better when it starts getting close to the wire.

A good possibility. And Canada is just a few days away.

BTW do you follow the GT4 America series? I think there are 4 Supra and one has been leading the series.

So as far as qualifying is concerned, George did better than Kimi, Lando did better than Oscar, Lewis has improved past Charles and Issac is JUST behind Max. I'd wager that by the end of the season, Issac is out qualifying Max more often than not. But Max still beats him in the race. And Ferrari should replace either Lewis or Charles with Arvid... the next hot young star. These are just my crazy opinions...

I can't disagree with any.

I noticed that the top 8 qualifying times were with a half second of each other. That's just nuts.

I find it interesting how the qualifying and eventual places are always different, the fastest lap doesn't correspond right now to how the teams have figured out how to use the batteries. I suppose it'll shake out by the end of the season of course only to get revised next year. It's kind of cool there's overall team strategy involved in the race, I like that, but it does kind of screw the drivers over a little bit.

I'm just enjoying the fact that it has been fairly close racing and more passing than in the DRS era.
It's the same top four teams as last year, but some of the mid field teams look to be improving. I really hope Audi can step up. Cadillac seems to be a bit further behind, but still improving.

What a spectacular race! George and Kimi racing was so fun to watch! Too bad George's car let him down. And then Lewis and Max had a good run at the end. Congrats to Lewis for getting the better of Max... a lot of us really appreciated that!

And has anybody else noticed that Max is smiling more and being nicer than he has been over the past few years?

I'm not sure he's much different, I think he's an a-hole at times, but it's possible they all are (I am haha). He might be actually a little nice or it might just be that the coverage of him has shifted some.

Kimi's a beast. I can't believe he is 19. I was a dumb ass when I was 19.

I was at 19 as well. But I did do some racing... drag racing on Woodward Ave out NW of Detroit in a '67 Chevy Nova with a 327ci / 375hp. I only got beat by about half of the big block 427's and Hemi's!

I saw a story that says Max laughed at McLaren for starting the race on intermediate rain tires.

" Max Verstappen poked fun at McLaren’s decision to start the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix on the intermediate compound as that strategic call immediately backfired. "

I admit to not liking Max very much, although I'll admit he is a special kind of talent as a driver. And I'll also admit to yelling at the TV before the teams left the grid because even I knew intermediate rain tires was an utterly stupid call. Whoever made that call should be removed from all strategy calls for at least the rest of the season!

Both Lewis and Max gave 2 thumbs up when asked about if they were happy McLaren starting on the inters in the post-race press conference. McLaren still have that midfield team mentality with some strategy calls.

Yep! But on the other hand, thier calls are still better than Ferrari's calls 95% of the time!

WHERE are you guys finding the post-race interviews? I'd love to watch but can't find them anywhere.
