I got a call today from the Toyota contact, she said the car is coming with my exact build sheet - stating that by law it has to be identical.

She also said the VP of the Koon’s Automotive group is involved and keeping tabs on this which is a solid bit of oversight by the dealership.

She also stated that despite the car possibly arriving there tomorrow, it will likely be another two weeks before all the backend paperwork and stuff with my bank is finished.

Even late January is sooner than I expected so bonus I guess.
My case manager was able to upgrade me on a lot along with choosing what color I wanted specs etc.

Yeah, I know that lemon laws are specific to the state, so they may have the leeway in your home state. Apparently I must be given the identical configuration by law in Virginia.

My latest update. Toyota agreed to give me back all of the money I spent on the car (minus $75). Toyota worked with my local dealer to get me extensive discounts on a new car which I picked up yesterday. The general manager at my dealer went out of his way to make sure I was happy. I lost a lot of time in the process but in the end I saved a lot of money and have a new car.

Care to ballpark what “extensive discounts” are? I would like to be able to compare to what my dealer puts in front of me.

I paid $500 over invoice and all extra fees like doc fees were waived. Total process took 77 days from the day I took it in.

Well, somebody returned a 1400 mile used 2020 Supra which has a recall on it and a dealership is selling it now. Still has an open recall on it according to the NTSA website:
How accurate is that website on open recalls even if its fixed recently?

1Unrepaired Recallsassociated with this VIN
Nov 27,2019
Manufacturer Recall Number19TB20
NHTSA Recall Number19V850
Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available
SummaryCertain left and/or right headlamp(s) may experience a loss of function. If a loss of function to the left and/or right headlamp occurred, this would affect headlamp illumination and turn-signal function.

Safety RiskDriving without a turn signal or with both headlamps disabled could increase the risk of a crash.

RemedyToyota is currently preparing the remedy. The remedy, when available, will involve replacing the affected headlamp control unit FREE OF CHARGE.

How could it be fixed if there's no remedy yet for the problem?

When I ran my VIN is said data was from yesterday.

Once they’re fixed I have no doubt they’ll all be titled in states that don’t carry a lemon designation on the title.

Should basically be fine once repaired - mine has 355 miles on it so basically new.

i am assuming they fixed it if they are currently selling it as an used car and advertising it online? Lol

You trust dealerships more than I do then. I'd be sure to verify any kinda repairs before buying (I thought there was no current fix for the recall).

My buddy traded in a junk Toyota Tundra (frame was rusted through and two different shops said that it wasn't worth fixing + it wasn't part of w/e rust bucket recall Toyota had). Upon inspection, the dealer also said the car was just about good for scrap parts and obviously didn't offer anything worthwhile as a trade in. Less than 48 hours later that same truck was listed for sale for 15.5k at a sister dealer. Rust was cleaned up and undercarriage was re-sprayed. Some poor bastard probably bought that car. All of us probably have shady dealer stories.

Edit* Quick google also revels that there is no federal law prohibiting a dealership from selling a USED car with an open recall. There could be something in the State laws for each individual State but I am not billing this time so I'm gonna leave it at that lol

Actually when I saw your posts from so long ago, I decided to go and talk to the Sales General Manager. I believe it helped to speed up the process. My rep from Toyota specifically told the the general manager had called him directly and asked for the case to be sped up.

My law was the exact same and I just stated this is complete BS, couple days later build sheet.

So this is getting messy.

Thanks to you guys, I now know that I should expect some concessions. Thing is, replacement locks me into the original price.

I just initiated buyback which will extend time to resolution another 30 days... also, Toyota can’t guarantee that the vehicle they shipped to my dealer will get released to them for sale. So now I have no idea what car I will be able to buy but the dealer has stated they’ll work with me to offer concessions that are in line with those described here.
